MARIA FRIESEN
Born: Dec 26, 1927
Date of Passing: May 29, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIA FRIESEN Peacefully, with her family by her side, on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 went to her heavenly home. Predeceased by her mother and father and brother, she will be deeply missed by her husband Peter and her children Werner, Heidi, Irene, Ingrid and Drew alongside their partners, as well as her many grandchildren and her great-granddaughter. She is also survived by her brother Peter (Tina) and sister Tina (Jake). Maria was born December 26, 1927 in Kronsweide, Ukraine to Peter and Tina Wiebe. Her family moved to Einlage where she went to school. At the age of 15, she left home to study in Kiev to become a teacher. When the war broke out, she was transferred to Lemberg to continue her schooling while her parents moved to Germany. Her education was interrupted during those years and she was reunited with her parents in Germany. In 1948, her parents, one brother and sister went to Paraguay where Maria taught school in Waldhof. Two years later, when she decided to continue her education, she resigned and recommended a young man she knew to take her position. His name was Peter Friesen and he later became her husband. Maria married Peter in 1952 in Waldhof, Paraguay and they moved to Canada where they built a life and had five children. She worked and supported Peter through University and through many moves until they came to Winnipeg in 1993. Maria was a kind and generous person who loved music, food and time with friends and family. Maria and Peter traveled often to spend holidays with their children, grandchildren and longtime friends. Maria was a faithful member of the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church and sang in the choir for many years. She remained active in the church community and enjoyed many music and cultural events with Peter. The measure of life is not its duration, but rather its donation. Maria donated her life to God for service on this earth and to her husband and children. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 4 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maria's memory to the Gideons International in Canada. The tempest is over. I'm safe evermore. What gladness, what gladness, what rapture is mine. I'm anchored in love divine. (June Carter Cash) Friends Funeral Service, 339-5555.

Irene so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. It is hard to say goodbye to a parent. I had to say good bye to my dad almost 3 years ago and there are days when I think "Oh I should ask dad", it is then that I rely on what he taught us. Think of the happy times that you had with your mom and treasure them dearly. - Posted by: Darlene Giesbrecht (Friend from Justice MB Church) on: Jun 07, 2012

Irene, you are in my thoughts often since I found out that you lost your mom last week. My mom passed away 11 months ago and I still think of her every day and wish she was still here to talk to and be with. May the memories of your mom be cherished in your heart as you go thru this difficult time. - Posted by: Brenda (Loewen) Newton (Justice MB Church friend of Irene) on: Jun 07, 2012
