DUNCAN WILSON With deepest sorrow we announce Duncan's passing on May 27, 2012 after a valiant fight against cancer. Duncan leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters Amanda Ho (Warren), Bethany Moore (Jason), grandchildren Augusta and William, mother Dorothy, brother Dan (Ester), nephews, aunts, cousins, family and friends. Duncan was predeceased by his wife Linda (2005), sister Debbie (1953), and father Harris (2005). Duncan was a self-taught professional musician, excelling in guitar, keyboard and accordion. Duncan's love of music began with playing coronet in the Salvation Army Young Peoples Band under the guidance of his uncle, Bandleader Sandy Murray. Duncan's love of the accordion was nurtured by his Aunt Margaret Murray. Over the next five decades Duncan self taught himself the guitar, playing in prominent bands including the Mongrels, Dianne Heatherington and the Merry-Go-Round, St. Silver, Papa Pluto, Les Pucks and most recently the Cold Hard Facts of Life. Music was a mainstay throughout Duncan's life. Over the past 20 years Duncan was passionately involved with the Winnipeg Spiritualistic Church, holding the position of Reverend for the past seven years. Duncan's love of animals was reflected in his love for his dogs and his involvement in small animal rescue. The family gives thanks to Susan Smith, Janine Gregorash, and the many friends who rallied and assisted Duncan through his difficult journey. Special thanks to Sandra and the wonderful nurses and Doctors of the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 4, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, with Mr. Joey Gregorash officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a small animal rescue group or St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care. Goin' up to the Spirit in the sky That's where I'm gonna go when I die When I die and they lay me to rest Gonna go to the place that the best -Norman Greenbaum 586-8044

Condolences & Memories (29 entries)

  • I happened to be browsing people and places from my Hometown of Winnipeg when I came across this memoriam. I am sorry to hear of Duncan's passing, he and Linda were booking agents for us back in the 80's, and he was a caring and solid friend. He often derided me for my lifestyle and I eventually became sober. I am glad to see he continued to help and inspire people for so many years. I feel privileged to have known both he and Linda. - Posted by: Syd Kohlman (Musician) on: May 05, 2019

  • OMG. I just happened to be reading something today and it immediately triggered watching Duncan and Les Pucks at the Marion hotel. So many memories came through; I was overwhelmed that he has suffered and passed away. Duncan, you were the very embodiment of what rock and roll was all about; rebellion at the establishment, not taking things seriously and just having a good time musically. I am so saddened you are gone. You will live on (especially with that CBC special from the St.Vital hotel!) RIP sir from a fan. - Posted by: Brian Mousseau (Fan) on: Apr 22, 2019

  • What a shock. Just seen Duncan's obituary on the Manitoba Music Museum website. Moved away from Winnipeg in 2010 to Kelowna. When we talk about music here with other ex Winnipegers I always mention Les Pucks and play their Direct To Disc. This was by far the band we travelled around Winnipeg bars the most to listen to. RIP Duncan, thanks for the musical memories. - Posted by: David Boyko () on: Apr 12, 2013

  • My friendship with Duncan was through our love of Small Animal Rescue. Duncan liked making breakfast for his 4 K9 companions, who he would say "Ate better than he did". Duncan told me in March that nothing gave him more of a thrill than to play onstage to a crowd. I thank Duncan for all the time we spent together, I treasure every moment. I never got to give you a last kiss, so I send one now and hope you catch it. I love you Duncan. My condolences to Mrs. Wilson, brother Dan, daughters Bethany and Amanda and other members of the family. - Posted by: Kelly Richardson (Friend) on: Jun 02, 2012

I remember a band battle with The Mongrels at Crescentwood Community Club with my band, The Condemned. I also attended Grant Park High School. I followed Duncan's musical career since that time and was always impressed with his determination to succeed. God speed Duncan - Posted by: Ray Pettinger (Acquaintance) on: Jun 02, 2012
