MARY SZYMUSZKIEWICZ (nee CHOPP) (SIMCOE) October 9, 1926 - May 29, 2012 On the afternoon of May 29, 2012, at the age of 86 years, Mary passed away peacefully at Meadowood Manor with family in attendance. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 60 years, Walter Szymuszkiewicz, as well as daughter Margaret (George) Langlois, son Brian (Lucy) Muszkie, daughter Susan (Randy) Pidlubny, daughter Audra ( Lindsay) Hooge, her eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law Sophie and Gordon Purchase, sister-in-law Eleanor Chopp, and many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her parents Francis and Stanley Chopp, and younger brother Casey Chopp. Mary graduated from St. Boniface Hospital as a Registered Nurse and spent the majority of her nursing career as Night Supervisor at the St. Amant Centre in Winnipeg. In the late 1970s Mary enrolled at the University of Manitoba and earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree. Mary was an avid reader and also enjoyed doing cross-stitch in her retirement years. She was happiest and most content when surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She loved to cook for large family gatherings. The family would like to thank the Staff of Meadowood Manor for their superior care and attention to Mary's needs over the last three and one half years while she was resident with them and for their kindness to her family in her final days. Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. at Meadowood Manor, 577 St. Anne's Rd. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing to do so make donations to a charity of their choice. Cropo Funeral Chapel, 586-8044

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Mary had the most infectious giggle. Once she started, there was no stopping her or anyone near her. We spent a lot of time laughing together. At times Mary heard and saw more than most people gave her credit for. On a trip to the Zoo, she giggled hysterically when a camel relieved itself for a VERY long time. I so enjoyed sitting quietly with Mary, and gently massaging her hands. She would talk of times past, and share her life memories. Thank you for sharing the gift of knowing Mary with me. I will treasure the memories of her. - Posted by: Georgina Knight (former Recreation Facilitator at Meadowood) on: Oct 24, 2012

  • I met Mary while working at St. Amant Hospital and have yet to meet a kinder nurse anywhere! She was an equally kind and caring parent. My brother, and by extention, the rest of our family were blessed to know her! - Posted by: Margaret Ingebrigtson (Brother's Mother-in Law and my friend.) on: Jun 01, 2012
