ALLAN RODGER FERRILL After a brief illness, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rodger on May 25. His daughters and his wife were at his side. Rodger is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharon (Demler), his daughters Kim (Barry Rezansoff), Beth (David Belovich), grandchildren Natasha Belovich, Jacob Belovich, brothers Don Ferrill (Terry), Ray Ferrill (Dorothy), Ted Ferrill (Heather), brothers-in-law Alan Demler (Marguerite), Jack Demler (Kathy), Jim Demler (Debra) and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents Roy Ferrill and Verna Ferrill (Comerford) and three brothers Tom Ferrill (Ann), Bill Ferrill (Pat) and Douglas Ferrill. Rodger was born October 16, 1931 in Carleton Place, ON and spent his early years there. He had great memories of family times at the cottage on the Mississippi River. His love of fishing and hunting grew from the time spent there with friends and family. He joined the Air Force and after initial training in Quebec he was posted to Portage la Prairie where he met and married Sharon. Their next posting was Washington, D.C. followed by a short stint in Sioux Lookout, ON. While in Sioux Lookout he decided to join External Affairs to see more of the world. The family was moved to Ottawa and over the next 38 years they went to postings in India, Israel, Iran, France, Germany, Yugoslavia, Czech Republic and back to a final posting in Germany. He thoroughly enjoyed his job and the people he met. He enjoyed touring the countryside in each country, visiting all the monuments and taking part in the festivals everywhere. He liked hosting large parties with vast amounts of food and good wine for family and friends as well as regaling people with stories of his travels and of course fishing stories about the fish he caught and the ones that got away. Thank you Doug and Kathy for the great fishing times on Clearwater Lake at Emo, he looked forward to the fine times spent there with Al and Marguerite. A special thank you goes out to the wonderful nurses and staff on the second floor of the Grace Hospital and Dr. Pat Harris for their kindness and compassion during his final days. As per his wishes cremation has taken place and there will be a family celebration of his life at a future date. Donations in his memory can be made to a charity of your choice. I am saddened to hear of Roger's death. He and Sharron were so kind to me when we were first transferred to Washington in 1960. I have very fond memories of those days and then both to serve in External Affairs together. He was a fine man and I appreciated all the things that he did for my wife Pat and I. - Posted by: Bob Phillips (Friend) on: Jun 08, 2012
