Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPH WLOSEK Joseph passed away at the Victoria Hospital on Tuesday May 29, 2012 at 93 years of age. He is lovingly missed by his wife Beatrice (nee McAmmond), daughters Patricia (Bruce) Jennings, Barbara (Glenn) Connell, and stepson David (Donna) Solmundson; grandchildren Jeff Solmundson, Rob (Jennifer) Solmundson, Laura (Reynald) Neault, Jonathan Jennings, Joanne (Tyler) Jennings; and great-grandchildren Jacob, Lucas, Rhianna and Rylan. He was predeceased by parents Kayetan and Anelia Wlosek, brother Mike, sister Beth Davis, and his first wife Thelma. Joe was a long-time resident of Fort Rouge. He was born on Kylemore Avenue March 24, 1919 to Polish immigrant parents and resided in the Lord Roberts and Riverview Districts for his entire life, except for time spent in the RCAF during the Second World War where he was stationed in Whitehorse, Edmonton and Coal Harbour on Vancouver Island. Joe joined the RCAF in 1941 and upon his discharge in 1946 joined the Winnipeg Fire Department, retiring as Captain in 1981 after 35 years of service. He and Bea had many happy times at their Brereton Lake cottage where Joe enjoyed fishing, blueberry picking and nature around him. He was proud of the cottage he built with the help of friends. Joe had a wide circle of friends and he always enjoyed the camaraderie of his golf, curling and fellow firefighter friends. Joe was a wonderful dancer and he loved a good party including organizing both of his daughters' weddings. Joe and Bea traveled to Florida, Barbados and Hawaii, but it was Lake Havasu, Arizona where they enjoyed over 20 winter seasons. Joe's athleticism from his high-jumping days at Kelvin High where he was provincial champion continued in his adult life. He was an avid curler who won provincial championships and a golfer until he was 90. In recent years he spent many hours following these sports closely on television. Joe had many happy years at South Osborne Place where he and Bea participated in social activities and enjoyed their friends there. He was a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion Osborne Street Branch #252. At Joseph's request no funeral service will be held. You are my sunshine. Just heard today of Joe's passing. It's made me very nostalgic thinking of all the fun times we had together growing up on our little block on Oakwood. Joe was such a character, a one of a kind guy! My condolences to Bea, Patty, Barb and David and all of your families. - Posted by: Kerry Coulter Montgomery (family friend) on: Jun 06, 2012

Both Cssmir and I knew that Joe wanted to be with his family when he died. I am so pleased that he had a couple of weeks to be with you all and drink 7-Ups without "the damn" thickener. I wish that I had had more time to get to know him but know that he was very proud of his whole family. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: Wayne Barr (roomate in DLC) on: Jun 02, 2012
