VINCENT EDWARD DAVID SURBEY
Date of Passing: Jun 05, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVINCENT EDWARD DAVID SURBEY On Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 6:55 p.m., Vince finally was given a much deserved release after suffering a massive stroke over five years ago. His departure has widened our family's empty space left by the loss of his sons Tyler and Christopher, mother Annie, George, brother Leonard, and his nephew Jason. Left behind to keep his memory alive are his loving wife Val, brother Gerry (Gail), sister-in-law Marilyn, children Stephen (Catherine), Joanne (Jim), Darlene (Kevin), their mother Shirley, Timothy, Ryan and Preston, and stepdaughter Catherine (Curtis). Vince also leaves behind his many grandchildren, nieces and nephews who will always treasure their time with Vince and are left with wonderful memories. Vince led a very active life having taught school for 37 years (most in Phys Ed), coaching at track meets, becoming a national master official for competitive swimming, raising and showing Old English Sheepdogs, advocating for our boys in the world of disability. He especially looked forward to his annual visits with Joanne and her family in British Columbia. Summers at the lake were his happiest times. On Saturday, June 9, 2012, his family would like to extend an invitation to our friends and family to gather at 25 Nichol Avenue, R2M 1V8 (two streets south of Glenlawn Collegiate) from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. to come celebrate and share any special memories of Vince and to be again reminded of the too numerous to count people he touched from coast to coast throughout his all too brief life. Vince, you were one of a kind, and I am far the better person for having known you and sharing my life with you. Love Val In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated by Community Living, Manitoba, 120 Maryland Street or the Manitoba Down Syndrome Society, 825 Sherbrook Street. Mr. Survey was my Gym Teacher at West Dale Jr. High from 1991-1993. When I was cut from the Grade 7 team, Mr. Survey asked the coach to give me another shot, he did, and I made the team. I didn't deserve his kindness. He was kind to us kids when so many of us were cruel. Sorry it took me 10 years to pass on my condolences to his wife Val, friends and family. - Posted by: Kevin Cheale (Student) on: Oct 15, 2022

Vince was a long time teaching partner. I will never forget all the hours we spent coaching the hundreds of students who came our way, the many laughs that we shared and the joy on many students faces as they accomplished what they thought was the impossible. I often think of those times. I will miss you Vince! - Posted by: Elaine Tully (friend) on: Jun 08, 2012
