STEVE THOMAS MATIS Suddenly on the evening of June 8, 2012 Steve Matis, at the age of 60, passed away at his home near Komarno. Beloved husband of Lois Matis (nee Cook), of 39 years and adored father of Stacey (Darryl), Shelley (Bryce) and Sharmon (Clayton). Survived by two sisters Sophie Eskilson (Allan), Millie Hyntka (John), sisters-in-law Lorine (David), Beryl (Rudy), Keith (Lois) and his numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Matthew and Maria, brother Florian (Angie), sister Mary (Vlado), father and mother-in-law Clifford (Rosella). He passed away while doing what he loved, working on a Caterpillar in his yard with his wife by his side. Steve was born in Gimli and was raised on the family farm where he also raised his own family. Steve was well known as an excellent mechanic. He could fix anything from chainsaws to Caterpillars. He also took great pride in whatever he did including farming, heavy construction and flying model airplanes. More recently Steve loved his job as a construction consultant. He loved spending time with his family and having them nearby. He also enjoyed auction sales, visiting with friends, neighbours, cousins and reminiscing with fellow construction buddies. A celebration of Steve's life will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Teulon Centennial Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or charity of your choice. MACKENZIE FUNERAL CHAPEL TEULON (204) 467-2525 mackhome@mts.net

I am very sad to hear of Steve's passing; although I have not seen him for perhaps 40 yrs, I recall his positive energy and laughter, and see that he lived his life giving this to others. What a great gift he had, and sad to see so many will dearly miss him. - Posted by: jean hnytka (sister of brother-in-law) on: Jun 12, 2012
