KATHLEEN JESSIE MEYER (nee CREIGHTON) Peacefully on June 11, 2012 Kathleen passed with her niece and grandchildren by her side. She was predeceased by her husband Ronald, son Randall Lee, and sisters Darlene Murphy and Bernice Porterfield. Survived by grandchildren Jesse, Kyle, Bretton, and Devon, and their mother Gabrielle. Also by her niece and nephew, Dana McKinnon (Sandy) and Creighton Murphy (Fern) and great-nieces and nephews, Sean McKinnon, Lisa McKinnon, Danielle Murphy and Ryan Murphy. Born in Brandon, Kathleen moved to Winnipeg and was married in 1949. She and Ron built their home on Parkville Bay, where they raised Randy. She commuted downtown to Eaton's where she worked for many years as a cosmetologist, until her early retirement when she returned to school. Pursuing an opportunity she did not have as a young adult, Kathleen attended the University of Winnipeg and received her Bachelor of Arts in 1983. Kathleen had many passions including a love of hockey, fashion, writing, figure skating, horseback riding and especially spending time with her grandchildren. In retirement she and Ron wintered in Mesa, Arizona, and often travelled to Grand Rapids, Minnesota to visit longtime friends, Betty and Ralph Avery. In her later years, she spent much time with and was helped greatly by her neighbours and friends, Carol and Walter Karschuk. Kathleen had a one of a kind personality that touched many lives; her stories and sense of humour will be greatly missed. A special thanks to the nurses at Golden Links Lodge, for being so comforting and attentive to both Kathleen and her family. Also to the grandchildren's significant others for the love they showed Kathleen by being at her side. A service in Kathleen's memory will be held on Monday, June 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery), with viewing at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 9Z9. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Mrs. Meyer was such a lovely lady. Kathleen was always wanting me to take a break and visit with her, while I was cleaning her house or weeding her flower beds. I would always take time after my work was completed, when I was off the clock. We would then sit together at the kitchen table where we would have the most interesting conversations. I miss you Kathleen. - Posted by: CAROLINE SPENCE (A "Mothers Helper" ad brought Kathleen Meyers and myself together. ) on: Jul 12, 2012
