Elsie and Jim lived in various places in Manitoba, while Jim had his career with Manitoba Hydro. When she was younger, Elsie did some substitute teaching, but most of her time was spent raising her three boys. When the boys were older she worked in the restaurant in Piney. Elsie also spent many years as an Avon Sales Representative in the Piney area Elsie and Jim retired in Piney, Manitoba. Both Elsie and Jim spent their final years at Bethesda Place Personal Care Home in Steinbach. Elsie loved curling and spent many evenings and weekends at the Curling Club. Jim and Elsie also travelled to many World Curling Events (formerly The Silver Broom). Elsie also loved to watch the Toronto Blue Jays on the television and golf at Roseau. She had a passion for cake decorating and created many wedding cakes for the local brides. Over the years, Elsie also spent many hours working in the garden and the flower beds. During the summer months she enjoyed the many vacations and camping trips. Elsie was an active member of the Legion Auxiliary and other community organizations. • Mrs. Dooley was the best Sunday School teacher in Grand Marais. I still have the Easter cup and saucer that she gave us. I also played the piano with her son. I often tell this story to many people. Deepest sympathy to all. - Posted by: Eva (Linklater) Brown (Sunday School Student) on: Jun 16, 2012

  • When living at Piney in 1977 to 1981, Elsie was a very outgoing person. Jim and Elsie were very active in the community and often found the time to share a laughter and be helpful to assist others'. She had a very unique disposition, and when you met her, you never forgot her kindness. I purchased every Avon stein she sold from the first to the last one. She was never shy, in fact she encouraged and supported any good initiative. She clerked the Beaudry's auction sale at Piney, and she never complained and everything worked out all right. They both had green thumbs, and they took true pride in their Piney yard and garden. Jim and Elsie are back together and I know they are probably weeding the garden and flowerbeds together again. - Posted by: Jack Kowalchuk (Friend) on: Jun 16, 2012
