BRENT NIELS BJARNASON 1968 - 2012 Suddenly at his home on Friday, June 8, 2012, Brent Niels Bjarnason passed away. Brent was born on August 23, 1968, in Winnipeg to Niels and Gwen Bjarnason. He lived most of his life in Gimli and Winnipeg. Brent was predeceased by his father Niels in 2007, and leaves to mourn the love of his life Helena, step-daughters Lucy (Blake), Sandy (son Logan, his very special little buddy whom he loved so much and was so very proud to be his Afi; his mother Gwen, sister Inga (Dennis) and his niece Mikayla (his special little viking); numerous relatives, countless friends and his pets Taz and Loki. One of the things Brent loved most was his family. He met his wife Helena in 2001, and they were married in 2010. He enjoyed the outdoors and especially the time spent with friends, fishing and camping or just sitting around a bonfire in his backyard. Brent volunteered with the Icelandic Festival of Manitoba for nearly 20 years. His days of masquerading around Gimli entertaining the tourists and locals alike, as the friendliest scary Viking, will be fondly remembered and missed by all! Another of the things Brent loved was the time he spent as an Auxiliary Constable with the Gimli RCMP where he made many friends and had many adventures. Brent graduated from Gimli Composite High School Class of 87. He was very active in basketball and the drama program and was also co-grad chair. Brent worked briefly for the North West Company in Northern Ontario. He then went on to attain his Certification in Meat Cutting from Red River College and went to work at Tip Top in Gimli. Brent also worked for several years with UPS. He also spent many years working as a Respite Worker with CFS. It is there that he met a boy named Ryan over 15 years ago, and they have remained close friends ever since. Brent took Justice and Law courses at the University of Winnipeg. He began his career in the Justice Department as a Sheriff over 13 years ago. At the time of his passing he was working as a Deputy Registrar for the Court of Queen's Bench. Brent loved the people he worked with and made many lifelong friends there. We will celebrate the life of Brent Bjarnason on Sunday, June 24, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. in the Fraserwood Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in trust for his grandson, please contact the Noventis Credit Union in Gimli. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949-2200 www.nbardal.mb.ca
