NONA MARGUERITE BROTCHIE (WILSON) 1929 - 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the death, on June 15, 2012, of Nona Marguerite Brotchie (Wilson) at age 82. Nona will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Connie Hamon (Rich) and Pat Jones (Barry), granddaughter Tracy Wright (Darin), grandson Scott Hamon (Jennifer), four great-grandchildren Ethan and Isaac Wright, Taylor and Jack Hamon, her sister Bette Blore (Bill) and family, and other dear relatives. She was predeceased by her husband Angus, and her parents Ralph and Jessie. Nona was born in Carman, Manitoba. She spent her childhood on her parents' farm just outside of Elm Creek which gave her a great love of nature that lasted throughout life. After completing high school in 1947, she taught grades 1 to 8 on permit at Glenco School near Glenboro. In 1949 she married Angus Brotchie. After Angus returned from the Korean War in 1951 he remained in the armed service, stationed in Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, Vernon and finally Winnipeg. Along the way Nona raised two children. In 1965 she attended the University of Manitoba for a one year teaching program. From 1966 to 1991 she first taught kindergarten and then grade one at Britannia School in St. James Assiniboia. During this time Nona earned her Bachelor of Education by taking courses at night school and summer school. She loved being a teacher and spent many hours preparing for classes. Angus and Nona moved to Charleswood in 1971. Here she created a lovely back yard garden. When Nona retired in 1991 she was happy to be able to spend even more time there, and it was always one of her favourite places to be. She joined the Charleswood Art Group and created many beautiful watercolours and other works, now treasured by her family. Favourite themes were of course farms and nature. She loved and supported the Harte Trail in Charleswood where she could be found every day on her walks. She always kept as busy and active as possible. Nona loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much and enjoyed planning many activities for them. One of her great pleasures was organizing the annual family reunion with her sister. She was always good natured and found joy in even the smallest things. We will all miss her friendly smile and cheerful laugh. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB.
