The Hoel family was my first family, and the best i've known, in nearly 53 years. I spent many many weekends at Winnipeg Beach, with my Grandparents, my Grandmother, (Olga) was a Hoel, Don's Aunt, my Mother, (Lorraine), was his eldest cousin. When someone mentioned beach, I had my suitcase packed and ready. Separate cottages within a hundred feet of each other. My family moved to Vancouver, when I had completed the 1st Grade. Although we went back many times, I finally lost touch with everyone in Winnipeg. I have nothing but good memories of this man, Donald Kenneth Hoel, and his extensive family, I was sad to hear of his passing. I do know, if I could pick my family, this is the one I would chose to be related to. - Posted by: Erik Orla Andersen (Second Cousin) on: Jun 22, 2012

My mane is Lorraine. I am the oldest of the Cousins in the Hoel clan. I was 7 when I learned there would be a new baby in the family, of course I was excited. Don's dad, Uncle Carsten even took me to the hospital to bring Auntie Edie and Baby Donnie home. Moving forward about 3 years, I had received a small brown suitcase for my doll clothes. Donnie decided he wanted that suitcase. i was not going to give it up. Our Grandmother told me to give it to him because he would not hurt it. Not So. The first thing he did was put it on the floor and stomp on it. then he sat on it and caved in the top. Needless to say there were many teats from both of us...All was forgiven and it was so great to have a little cousin. I've many good memories of Donnie. I was sad to hear that Don had passed but happy to know that he had a wonderful Fathers Day with Ella and the family was with him. With all our love to all of you. Our thought are with you and also with Karen, Bob and their families. Thinking of you with much love Lorraine & Family in Vernon BC - Posted by: Lorraine Andersen (nee Hoel) (Cousin) on: Jun 21, 2012
