CHRISTIE LANGNER After a long and brave battle with cancer, it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Christie Anne Langner (nee Navis) on June 22 2012 at the age of 43. Christie leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband David and their beautiful little daughter Emily. Christie was the youngest of three children and she was loved and will be sorely missed by her two older brothers, Michael and Richard (Theresa) her uncle's Roman Stoyko (Jodie), Brian Gwizon (Norma) and Alan Gwizon (Bonnie) her two Nephews Zachary and Joshua Navis and her cousins Ian, Neil, Ashleigh and Erin. Christie was predeceased by her parents; Clifford in 2003 and Vera in 2008. Christie also leaves to mourn many close friends that she had cherished over the years, with a special mention to Lyle Hurd and Jill Bemi, who were two of Christie's oldest and dearest friends who provided her with many hours of support and company. Christie was born in Winnipeg on September 10, 1968 and grew up and settled in Transcona. She loved to travel and had fond memories of her vacations to Hawaii, California, and Florida with her family while growing up. Her favourite trip was going to Europe with her mom and godmother, Lesia Borys, where she visited five countries. She also liked to shop, spend time with her friends and try her luck at the casino. But it was Christie's role as a wife and mother that she cherished and was devoted to more than anything else. Christie loved her career as a compensation advisor working for Health Canada for six years and 11 years with various departments with the federal government in which she was a valued employee. She will be missed by her current and former workmates. A special thank you goes out to Dr. Wirtzfield and Dr Grenier for their effort to treat her illness. Also to the palliative nurses and home care ladies for making her comfortable in her remaining days. A service celebrating Christie's life will be held on Saturday, June 30 10:00 a.m at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Funeral Home located at 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to The Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of one's choice. Thank you everyone for such kind words. I've only met a few of you and it boggles my mind that she touched so many people in such a positive way without me having a clue. I was truly blessed to share my life with her. I can honestly say she was one of (if not the) nicest people I have ever met. Her love was deep and true and our days were filled with happiness even in the dark times at the end. Emily and I miss you terribly Christie. - Posted by: David Langner (Husband) on: Jul 05, 2012

To Dave, Emily and family - I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memory. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love and friendship. Please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss. - Posted by: Sue Ingleton (Friend/co-worker) on: Jun 26, 2012

Christie you will always be in my thoughts. I remember our times at Parks when we worked together. I think at one time I was your mentor as well as your friend. We had some great times outside of work. I was so happy to be part of your wedding celebration when you and Dave became partners. I know that all you ever wanted was to be a wife and mother. I was so sorry to receive the phone call from Dave as I had hoped to talk to you one more time. I will always cherish the friendship that we shared. You were a cheerful, considerate and a sharing person. You always put others before yourself and did what you could to make others happy. My sympathy goes out to Dave and Emily and the rest of your family. You are now resting with God and are free from suffering. Dave and Emily my prayers are with you and just remember God is with you always and will give you the strength and courage that you need for your journey in life. Christie love always and rest in peace with your creator. - Posted by: Carol Bauer - Calgary (Former Co-Worker ) on: Jun 25, 2012

I enjoyed meeting Christie when she was a compensation advisor for Agriculture many years ago. She was so friendly to me and helpful in making sure my employee file was transferred accurately. I always appreciated and trusted her wise counsel. I had the chance to work with her again when she joined the Health Canada HR team and appreciated her giving of her talents to the staff of Health and to me too. More than work, she was just a really nice person to be around. She had a smile and cheery "hi" for everyone. I couldn't believe that her illness with cancer was as serious as it was. In my mind she was just way too young to be battling such a condition. Despite her illness, she came to the office this past December for a pre-Christmas visit and gave everyone a wrapped box of chocolates! I was so surprised that she did this. This is just one of many examples of her thoughtfulness. I will miss her presence very much. My heart goes out to her husband, daughter and family in the loss of of their loved one. - Posted by: Brenda Mercer (Co-worker) on: Jun 25, 2012

I had the pleasure of meeting Christie when she joined Agriculture Canada, working with her for several years before each of us moved on to different departments. We ended up working together again at Health Canada years later & I'll never forget her excitement with meeting Dave. Her dream was to have a loving husband & family. I am so happy those dreams came true. In our conversations, I was amazed at her strength & positive spirit, never complaining, just more concerned for her Dave & Emily. She will be very missed. My heartfelt sympathy to Dave, Emily & family. - Posted by: Chris Carpenter (Co-worker) on: Jun 25, 2012

I worked with Christie for only a short period of time. However, Christie's bubbly personality and wonderful sense of humour made her such a joy to be around. I'll miss her laugh and seeing her around the office here at Health Canada. Rest in Peace, Christie - God took you way too soon. - Posted by: Camille Dupas (Co-worker) on: Jun 25, 2012

My dear Christie, today I learned of your passing and my heart is sad. Today, I am even more thankful for which now turns out to be our final chat only a couple of weeks ago. You were an amazing person and I thank God for the privilege of you being in my life for the past 18 years. At the workplace, you were an extremely knowledgeable and hard working colleague who could always be counted on. You put the needs of others first and would help out at any time without having to be asked. Even in the face of many unprovoked and unwarranted challenges, you handled everyone with fairness and respect at all times....a true professional and role model! Those who were touched by your indomitable spirit and passion for living were encouraged to seek an inner strength to overcome life’s challenges. Outside the workplace, I enjoyed and treasured your friendship very much. We shared many common interests including travel, love of animals (especially dogs) and trying out our luck at the casino. You were always seeking ways to be happy and to create happiness for others. You were a kind, caring, loving person with a great sense of humour. You made me laugh so hard at times that my eyes would tear up. I will miss our “get togethers” for dinner and our on-going conversations. In life, you asked for no more than anyone else. I was over the moon with joy at the news of your engagement, then marriage to David, then so very happy at the news of the birth of Emily. I know how very much your family meant to you. To Dave and all of Christie’s family, please accept my sincerest condolences. She was a great friend and I will miss her terribly. I will continue to remember all the happy times spent with her and she will always be in my prayers. God has her in his keeping, we have her in our hearts. - Posted by: Jeff Bukowski (Friend) on: Jun 25, 2012

Christie was a wonderful lady and a great mother and wife. Christie was never concerned about herself but always worried about if everyone else was ok. Even during her battle would always worry if I was ok when I came to her home. Her main focus was Dave and Emily and always wanted to know what she can do for them during this difficult time. She was such a strong lady and I learned so much from her and will never forget her. - Posted by: Joanne lapointe () on: Jun 23, 2012
