HILLA FUNK Hilla Funk passed away at her home in Winnipeg on Monday, June 18, 2012, at the age of 88 years and 10 months. Hilla was born in Wymyschle Poland, on August 2, 1923. She was the third child of Wilhelm and Bertha Hajer. In 1948, after experiencing the horrors of the Second World War, the family immigrated to Manitoba, Canada. Here she met and married our dad, Jacob Funk. Together, they owned and operated a successful hardware, and lumber business in Newton Manitoba for 33 years. In 1995, her loving husband Jake, went to be with the Lord. Two years later, Hilla moved to Winnipeg, where she resided for 15 years. We will cherish her memory as a woman who greatly loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was always concerned about our spiritual and physical wellbeing. We know that she spent many hours in prayer for all of us. We will miss her prayers, and her many phone calls and visits. She always assured us that she loved us and was praying for us. Those who knew her will remember her as a woman of strong faith, an active church member (she loved the people in North Kildonan MB). She was also a willing volunteer, especially at M.C.C. Hilla Funk is survived by her four children and their spouses: Dorothy (John) Hubert, Harry (Dorothy) Funk, Valerie (Pete) Wiebe, and Elaine (Roland) Dyck. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She leaves to mourn her brother Henry (Helen) Hajer, and her sister Ruth (Frank) Warkentin, and her best friend Sarah Giesbrecht. We mourn her death, but rejoice that she is at home with her Lord, and reunited with her husband, and her loved ones. Viewing on Monday, June 25, 2012, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a devotional at 7:15 p.m. at Friends Funeral Chapel. Condolences can be sent to f f s@mts.net . The funeral service will be held June 26 at 10:00 a.m. at North Kildonan MB Church, 1315 Gateway Rd. Winnipeg, Manitoba, with viewing prior to the service. Interment will be at Oakville Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Charities in her memory may be made to Family Life Network, 225 Riverton Avenue, R2L 0N1.

I am writing this for my parents Bill and Doris Tessau of Gladbrook, Iowa as they do not have a computer. They had been trying to get in touch with Hilla and asked me to look her up on the web where I found the obituary. They send their condolences and will remember Hilla fondly. Their visits and trips together were always enjoyable and memorable. They will miss Hilla and are sorry they did not know of her death sooner. - Posted by: Bill and Doris Tessau (friends) on: Nov 15, 2012

Through God's Love for each of us and placed by He Himself, with-in everyone of us, we share Loving Moments with people during our life while here on earth. Now, when these folks are Called Home, we lose the physical touch, but not the, "From the Heart contact". It is My Prayer to You all that, "All Your Precious Moments of the past, which, are now your Your Treasured Memories in the Future and Your Stronghold, to Carry You on, in years to come". Each of You has Your Own Personal Treasure Chest of these Blessed Memories, that No Man can touch as God Has Stored them with-in you, Himself and just for each of you personally! Take care of yourselves and of eachother. God Bless, Bob Olynyk, Portage. - Posted by: Bob Olynyk (Friend to Harry) on: Jun 25, 2012

I was so sorry to note the death of Mrs. Funk. I remember her, Mrs Warkentine, and Mrs Dick being so kind to me, when I went to school in Newton. They always made me feel so welcome and special when I went to mid week at the church.I saw Mrs Funk a few years ago and when I told her who I was she hugged me so hard! Again I felt that warmth and kindness. She really made an impact in my life. Kind thoughts, and prayers are with her family at this time. I remember how we would come to church in Newton, ususally with our arms full and there would be your Mom ready to help us with our coats and then hanging them up us. She was truly a servant of God! Seems like yesterday she called us just to see how we were doing and to let us know that she continued to pray for us. Oue sincerest condolences to all the family, your loss is great but her gain is unimaginable! Love Abe & Shirley - Posted by: Abe & Shirley Banman (Friend) on: Jun 23, 2012
