DONALD KLUCHNIK Surrounded by love Donald passed away peacefully on June 27, 2012. He is survived by his wife of over 40 years Lynella, children Ian and Aynsley, Aunts Janice Lutz and Margaret Moroz and Uncle Andrew Lutz. Born in Winnipeg and raised in Fort Rouge, Donald graduated from Churchill Collegiate and went on to earn Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education degrees from the University of Manitoba. Donald taught briefly at Edmund Partridge School before moving to West Kildonan Collegiate where he taught Biology and Chemistry for the remainder of his 37 year teaching career. In addition to teaching he also took pride in his involvement in extracurricular activities such as rugby, curling and managing the hockey team. Donald eagerly anticipated each school year often returning in August to organize his labs and prepare for the upcoming school year. He was genuinely proud of the accomplishments of his former students and followed their careers many years after graduation. Two days after his retirement from teaching Donald began his second career working as part of the Maintenance Team at Falcon Lake Golf Course. He worked there for nine years and no matter what job he was doing, whether it was emptying garbage cans or eventually cutting the greens and aprons he took pride in his work. He often said it was the best job he ever had. Working at the golf course also allowed him to spend time at the place he loved the most, the family cottage. Donald could usually be found outside tending to the lawn or his many flowers that he loved so much. Donald was above all else a family man. He was always actively involved in Ian and Aynsley's activities whether it was hockey or ringette, school sports, or their educational and professional choices and achievements. He always supported his family's decisions and goals. Through this support and years of community involvement Donald touched many lives and made many lifelong friends along the way. Throughout his life Donald was an amazing role model, teaching by example and always putting the needs of others before his own. Over the last two years he has truly shown everyone what courage, determination and true bravery are. He was a proud father and a loving husband and will be missed dearly by all who knew him. A celebration of Donald's life will be held on Wednesday, July 4, at 10:00 a.m. at Breezy Bend Golf Club, 7620 Roblin Blvd. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to West Hawk United Church Building Fund Box 89 Whiteshell P.O., West Hawk Lake, MB, R0E 2H0 or South East Whiteshell Fire Dept. Box 88 Whiteshell P.O., West Hawk, Lake MB, R0E 2H0 The family extends sincere and heartfelt thanks to Dr. P. Czaykowski, Denise Klassen and 3rd floor nurses of Cancer Care. • I worked with Don for many years at West Kildonan Collegiate. I especially remember the time we spent together on our grade 10 teaching team. Don was a true gentleman and his patience and caring made him a great teacher. Even after he retired he continued to substitute for me. The students and I marveled at his organizational skills and attention to detail. His field was science, but that didn't stop him from embracing my subject area of social studies and giving it his all. That was the kind of man he was. - Posted by: Tom Schmidt (teaching colleague) on: Jun 30, 2012
