VIRGINIA IRENE SMITH (PEARCE) June 18, 1924 - June 30, 2012 Peacefully, with family by her side, Virginia passed away at Victoria General Hospital on June 30, 2012 at the age of 88. Predeceased by son Dennis (1946), mother Lillian (1956), father Ray (1970), sisters Doris (1983) and Winnifred (1991), brother Jack (2010). Virginia will be lovingly remembered by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Ray (Jeanne), Donna (Rob), Leonard (Cheryl), Donovan (Sierra), Chana, Justin and Karlei; Carol, Sabrina, Mikayla and Addison; Ed (Kim), Crystal (Jeff), Jaylyn and Colton, Adam (Jessica), Moses and Abel; Al (Sandy), Candice (Grant), Munroe and Cecilia, Karyn (Jack), Josephine and Chandler, Katelin (Trevor); Pam (Henry), Shawn (Erynn), Ava, Maisa and Levi, Shannon (Stef), Breanna and Alyssa, Andrew (Carrie), Chyanne and Hayley. Virginia was born in Chicago and moved to Winnipeg as a young child where she grew up in East Kildonan and attended school at Prince Edward and Polson Schools. In her younger years she was active in speed skating with the Winnipeg Winter Club, with her church and Girl Guides group. She enjoyed spending time with her family at the Pearce's cottage at Caddy Lake, and in later years at Falcon Lake as well at Chesleys Resort. The family would like to thank all the staff who cared for Mom over the last few months at the Victoria General Hospital and the Grace Hospital. In keeping with Virginia's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, July 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 9Z9 or to any charity of your choice.
