KEITH MCLEAN It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Keith McLean on Thursday, July 5, 2012. Dad will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Linda (Shayne) Duplak, Sandra (Dean) Hughes, Janice (Dan) Bosowec and son Brian. Keith also leaves behind eight grandchildren Brad, Brendan, Brent, Chelsey, Christina, Colin, Connor, Cory, and two great-grandchildren Cale and Emma. He was predeceased by his wife Betty who passed away on February 26, 2012. Keith was born in Kamloops, BC on June 17, 1930, and spent most of his childhood growing up in West Kildonan. He started his career as a Lineman with the Manitoba Power Commission in 1948 and remained an employee of Manitoba Hydro until his retirement in 1985. During his successful career at Manitoba Hydro he held many positions including District Supervisor in Ashern, Winnipeg Beach, Oakville, Transcona and St. Boniface as well as Area Manager in Virden and Eastern Region Area Manager in Steinbach. He greatly enjoyed his career with Manitoba Hydro and in addition to his many accomplishments he had many lifelong friends there. Keith was active throughout his life in numerous organizations in Manitoba. Beginning in the 1960s he taught Judo at the Winnipeg Central YMCA and the Manitoba Judo Institute. He was a 2nd Dan black belt and competed in the National Judo Championships in Montreal in 1967 and was Service Coordinator for Judo at the Pan-Am Games in Winnipeg that year. He was a dedicated Mason and served as Worshipful Master of his Lodge in 1980. He was initiated in 1957 and awarded a 50 year medal for his dedication to the craft. Keith was also a proud member of the Khartum Shriners and a member of the Drum and Bugle and Orchestra Units and co-founder and first President of the Arabian Horse Guard Unit. He was a member of the Manitoba Arabian Horse Association and for many years pursued his passion raising Arabian horses on his farm. He was also an avid outdoorsman and greatly enjoyed his many hunting and fishing trips throughout Manitoba with friends and family. In his final years Keith devoted himself to the care of his beloved wife of 56 years, Betty, during the time of her lengthy illness with Alzheimer's. He was a remarkable man with wide-ranging interests and a passion for life. He will be forever missed by his family and many friends. According to Keith's wishes cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted to the Alzheimer's Society, 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
