DANIEL (DAN) MICHASIW We regretfully announce the passing of our father Daniel Michasiw after a brief illness on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. Remaining to forever cherish Daniel's memory is his loving wife Elsie, of 62 years of marriage; daughters Sylvia Kozakevich (Dennis) and Elaine Tymofichuk (Ernie); five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters Stella Budz of Rossburn, MB, Anne Holowski (Bill) of Victoria, BC; and two brothers Harry (Jean) and Ernest (Mary) of Winnipeg, MB. He was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Nellie Michasiw (Chwaluk); sisters Mary Twerdochlib and Rose Fiel; and brothers-in-law Issac and Joe respectively. Daniel was born July 5, 1926 in Olha, MB. He attended Byrd School. Growing up on the farm was where his passionate love of the outdoors blossomed. His early farming and logging exposure led to a passion for hunting, trapping and fishing. On October 8, 1949 Daniel married Elsie Baydock and together they farmed in Oakburn, MB. This was where he acquired his handyman skills in carpentry, repairing, plumbing, electrical and mechanical fields. He always helped his children, family and friends with various projects. Due to Daniel's health reasons they left farming and moved to Winnipeg in 1962. He found employment as a Commercial Sign Manufacturer at Claude Neon until his retirement. Dan enjoyed playing cards, games, crafts, sewing, and going to old time dances. His family and friends were truly an important part of his life. Mom and Dad enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, U.S.A., Mexico, and across Canada from British Columbia to Montreal. Divine Liturgy will be Celebrated on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 965 Boyd Avenue at Artillery Street, Winnipeg, MB with Rev. Fr. Volodymyr Bashutskyy presiding. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Cemetery, 4477 Main Street. The family would like to extend their thanks to the caring staff at the Holy Family Nursing Home and Grace General Hospital, Unit 4 South, for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or Mass offerings would be appreciated. EVERLASTING MEMORY VICHNAYA PAMYAT

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Though I only knew Daniel for a short time, I will fondly remember him. He was an avid Friday morning bingo player. Upon returning from his last stay in hospital(on his birthday) he expressed his wish to play bingo the next day. So with my help, he did. Winning twice! I will always recall the happy smile on his face. - Posted by: Debra Winterburn (Holy Family Recreation Volunteer) on: Jul 14, 2012

  • Dan to me was such an amazing neighbor as I lived behind him and Elsie for so many years. I always needed his help and wisdom to repair cars and house. He was so willing to help and would roll up his sleeves and get to work. We often would just have a chat or I would be invited for a tea and cookie. The thing about Dan is he helped the whole neighborhood. His smile and twinkle in his eye always made me think he had the joyful heart of a young person. Nobody who met him would miss what I just said. When I think of him just now I see that smile and I smile.I regret that my work obligates me to be there during the funeral and I can not make it . My regards to you all,I also remember you all. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I thank God for my friendship with Dan - Posted by: David Carroll (friend) on: Jul 13, 2012
