Born: Feb 12, 1940
Date of Passing: Jul 08, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS RUSSELL FOSTER February 12, 1940 - July 8, 2012 With his loving children and sister by his side Thomas Russell Foster (age 72) passed away after a brief, but courageous struggle with cancer. Left to mourn their loss is daughter Samantha (Dave) Godard of Winnipeg; son Todd (Chantal) Foster and cherished grandson Ty of London ON; his Aunt Iris (Mike) Soloniuk; his sister Maureen Dunlop; nephews Tom and David Gagnon; niece Bonnie (Brian) Riel; close, dear friend Lynda Tulloch, as well as the many loved ones he considered extended family and his lifelong friends. He was predeceased by his father Sgt. Russell Foster of The Winnipeg Grenadiers (Hong Kong). His mother Bonnie Harrison and stepfather Albert Harrison. Tom was employed with The T. Eaton Company (10 years) and The Liquor Control Commission (36 years). Until his passing he was actively involved with The Western Canada Aviation Museum (WCAM) where he was an Honorary Lifetime Member (35 years); The Hong Kong Veterans Commemorative Association (HKVCA) seven years and The Royal Canadian Legion (31 years). Tom spent numerous hours volunteering with the WCAM and HKVCA, respectively, and was always willing to lend his support and opinions however he could and made many, great friends along the way. Dad had many passions in life. Grandpa Tom was very proud of grandson Ty for all his accomplishments in school, sport and the young man he was becoming. He was an avid reader and photographer, enjoyed woodworking, big band music, painting, chatting and playing on the computer. Dad didn't let his amputation slow him down for long either, he joined the Rehabilitation Hospital Support Group and the Amputee Supper Club and his circle of friends grew. Whether working or playing, Tom was always up for a good time and a few laughs. The mischief maker in him loved to push people's buttons to get them wound up while he'd be giggling and grinning like a little boy the whole time. Thank you to all who were able to call or come and spend time with us and those that sent their best wishes. Your friendship, love and support really helped to brighten his days; he was truly blessed to have known you all. Thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff of GA4 and CancerCare at the Health Sciences Centre who cared for Dad. Thank you for the compassion and strength you gave the family in our hours of need. Special thanks to Dr. Kasper and Dr. Wong. Memorial and Life Celebration will take place on Thursday, July 12, 2012; 11:00 a.m. at The St. James Legion, 1755 Portage Avenue. Luncheon to follow. Please come share your favourite memories of Tom. Private interment at Chapel Lawn. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for memorial donations to Canadian Cancer Society - Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or CNIB, 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 3M3. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time. It's never easy to say goodbye to a loved one. Cherish the memories. I never really got to know your dad but, the obituary describes him as an extraordinary man. Someone I would have loved to sit with and listen to his stories.
