DANA CHARLENE DUECK Very early on June 25, 1982, in Winnipeg, MB, God gave us a beautiful gift. Dana was born and our family was complete. She is survived by her husband, Kris, her big brother Ian Dallas and his two sons Noah Hudson and Dustin Riley Keating, and their mother Priscilla, and her very proud parents, Denis and Wilma Keating. She is also survived by her parents-in-law, Alfred and Marj Dueck, sister and brother-in-law: Tanya and Greg Penner, and nephew Isaiah, brothers-in-law and their wives: Shannon and Tracy, Tyler and Coral, Jared and Jillayne. She was predeceased by her Grandpa and Grandma Frank and Olga Reimer, and her Grandma Irene. They are enjoying her in Heaven now and we know that Grandma is covering her with kisses. Dana grew up in Landmark and got her education in the schools there. She was involved in absolutely everything there was. Sports, band, drama, choir, and still she managed to find time for special events, like getting caught smoking at the park in her first week of junior high. She did well in her studies and was chosen to be the valedictorian at her grad. That September, at the age of 18, she left for Austria to spend some time at Capernwray Bible School to get to know who Jesus is. And she did. She came back so focused and mature and often challenged us with questions we could not answer. Denis and Dana got into an argument about some Biblical thing, and Denis just told her he knew he was right because he had read it in the book of St. Denis. Dana was a smart girl, but had a lot of blond moments, and she fell for it. She went to the University of Manitoba and got her degree in Physical Education. That decision was not an easy one for her. She didn't know she would love her career as much as she did. As we watched her get more involved with kids at summer camps and coaching sports, we saw that she had such a special love and gift for kids. In her last year of university she married the man that God had been saving for her. Kris and Dana were married on July 28, 2006, and what a party it was. They packed in a life time of memories in just under six years of married life. Thank you Poochie for loving our baby girl. They built their house in Niverville and it immediately became a warm home where everyone was welcome and royally entertained. Her first teaching job was in Austria. After her school semester, Dana stayed with a family in Austria to work in their Bed and Breakfast, and to teach their two children English. They all fell in love with each other and we know they are grieving with us. Her first job with Hanover School Division was at Steinbach Junior High. She loved it there in spite of her not loving her Art class that much. But she hung in there and after three years she landed her dream job in Niverville Collegiate, full time gym with junior high kids. She loved the fact that she could go to work in sweats and a tee-shirt. She was not sorry she had made the move to Niverville. Dana was looking forward to a relaxing summer but God had a better plan. After celebrating her 30th birthday with family at Falcon Lake, Dana Charlene Dueck went to celebrate with Jesus. Her smile only became even more beautiful as she rode her bike into Heaven on Sunday, July 8, 2012. Her time here is done. On her way to go mini golfing with some of the family, she looked back at us and said "Who says a girl can't have everything?" And off she went. So, like Kris and Dana always said instead of good bye: SEE YOU IN A BIT DANA. The funeral service will be held Friday, July 13, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Southland Church, 190 PTH 52, Steinbach, MB, with viewing prior to the service. Interment at the Prairie Rose EMC Cemetery, Landmark, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dana may be made to Teen Challenge, 414 Edmonton St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 9Z9. Arrangements by BIRCHWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL 1-204-346-1030 OR 1-888-454-1030

Condolences & Memories (30 entries)

  • I wanted to say that I am very sorry for your loss. To Denis, Wilma, Ian, and Kris. I knew Dana in School at LCI. We played sports together and She was always smilling and always inspired me. This Christmas I think about the family and I cant imagine what they are going through. I remember Denis and Wilma being amazing people that raised amazing kids. And its just so sad that she was taken so early. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Keatings and the Duecks. - Posted by: Doreen Sadova (Plett) (Former Student At LCI) on: Dec 29, 2012

  • So very sorry to hear of this tragic end to a beautiful life. Our thoughts are with you all and we trust your many wonderful memories will sustain you. - Posted by: David & Lynne Shilliday (Friends (Kathie's parents)) on: Jul 17, 2012

  • Dear Denis, Wilma, Kris and family; Millie and I send you our love and a prayer that our God will surround you with his love, his strength and understanding. That your family and friends will help you in this very sad time. Dana is with God and we ask God to be with you. - Posted by: Ben & Millie Sveinson (good friends) on: Jul 17, 2012

  • I accidentally emailed Dana--several times--when I first came to HSD. She always replied with patience, redirection and humour. Reading a lot of stories and hearing a lot of stories, she truly celebrated life and lived it fully. I am so sorry it was so soon for her to leave. - Posted by: cherie brisebois (colleague) on: Jul 17, 2012

  • My friend and I were motorists on the highway that day. We wondered at the miracle of life and the thin line between "life as we know it and life as eternal in His presence". I prayed for you all even though I knew extremely few details. As a father (and motorcyclist) who has a daughter, I grieve your loss as a family. May Jesus show himself strong every time you think of your daughter/wife. - Posted by: Ray Willms (passing motorist) on: Jul 16, 2012

  • Dear Kris, Wilma, Denis, Ian..Much of what happens to us seems to make no sense. We will not know all the answers until we come to our heavenly home. Between now and then we will at times sail rough seas. The question for us, "Can we trust the Captain our ship?" Sometimes Jesus calms our storms. More often, He reaches out to steady His children while we ride out those storms. If He's reaching out to you like that today, don't push Him away. Let Him hold you in His arms and comfort you. You've seen your Lord stretched out on Calvary's cross for you. Your pain may be a mystery, but your Saviour's love for you is crystal clear. - Posted by: Marilyn Swain (friend of the family) on: Jul 16, 2012

  • Dennis/Wilma, I just learned of your tragedy from Deanne and she shared with me what a testiment both of you were to everyone at the funeral in spite of your loss. It's funny, because that's exactly how I remember both of you, always positive and living life to the fullest. My heart goes out to you both, to Ian and his family and Dana's husband. In addition, I'm happy to hear that donations are being made to Teen Challenge as my daughter is part of their program and she is doing really well. - Posted by: Terry Mellway (Plett) (Friend of family) on: Jul 16, 2012

  • To the family, When I arrived back in Puerto Lopez (where MB to Ecuador lives) from the village of Salango, where we are running soccer camps with local poor kids in Ecuador and checked my messages from home, I read the very sad news that Dana had died in a vehicle accident. Dana was not just a relative, but a former student of mine at LCI, and eventual colleague in Hanover, who stands out in my memory, as a girl filled with the love of life, love of others, and gifted at living in the moment. Shock and surprise at this news hit me here and I'm sorry not to be in Canada, to attend her funeral. However, in reading the obituary (that Denis and Ian must have had a hand in writing!), I am so very thrilled at the family's faith and with the community of Christ-like support that surrounds you all. - Posted by: Paul Reimer (Cousin-uncle) on: Jul 14, 2012

  • Losing a child is one of God's most difficult lessons for those left behind. The knowledge that she is in a happier place is a comfort. Holding you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Margaret Janzen (Cousin of Parents) on: Jul 13, 2012

  • I knew Dana best in high school where we both participated in drama and student council. She infused those activities with joy, energy, and laughter. Dana struck me as a very special person then, and it is clear from the tributes that have been recently shared that she touched the lives of everyone she knew. I feel privileged to have known her and want to pay tribute to the Keating family for raising such an exceptional woman. I pray that God will give you strength and comfort... - Posted by: Kenton Storey (Former Classmate) on: Jul 13, 2012

  • Mrs. Dueck was a favorite among all of NCI. She was always smiling, joking around, and just living life to its fullest. Mrs. Dueck pushed us to do our best because she saw our potential when we didn't. She's my hero because she taught us we shouldn't give up when the going gets tough. She also taught, as said earlier, to live life to its fullest. Mrs. Dueck will never be forgotten and will always be a legend in the halls of NCI. May she Rest In Peace and I am truly sorry for your loss. ~Lindsay Clark - Posted by: Lindsay (Student) on: Jul 12, 2012
