Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • I remember coming back from a summer holiday and finding Bruce as a new addition to our school. He was always a great guy and even though I didn't hang out with him much after Jr. High I will always have good memories of him. Bruce was a very sweet guy. My condolences to his family. - Posted by: Peggy Griffin (Friend from St. Andrews School (when St. Andrews had Jr. High)) on: Jul 24, 2012

  • Sorry to hear of Bruce's passing. I met Bruce close to 40 years ago in grade 7 or 8. One night I heard someone playing drums in the neighbourhood. I had a guitar, and well, we soon became buddies. Through jam sessions in his basement, I was introduced to classic rock music like Humble Pie and Deep Purple. He also had a really cool dog named "Chow-Chow" We eventually lost touch, but we did share many adventures (and mis-adventures) in the short time I knew him. Rest in peace Bruce. - Posted by: Tim Pope (Friend from school) on: Jul 24, 2012

  • Sad to hear the passing of an old high school friend. Bruce, as he has been so well described above, was a wonderful guy and a true gentleman. Although I had not seen Bruce for many years, I recall his smiling face, laughter, devil-may-care-attitude and all around fun. In reflection, I will always remember the interactions we had during class and outside school. He was one of the good ones. My sincerest condolences to his family and many dear friends. RIP Bruce. Remembered and not forgotten by your buddies from Garden City Collegiate. - Posted by: Harvey Minuk (Friend from High School) on: Jul 23, 2012

  • Recognized as a hard worker, everyone liked Bruce. He treated everyone with respect and was a genuine "good guy". The world is a poorer place without his presence. - Posted by: Rob Galayda (co-worker) on: Jul 19, 2012

  • Thinking of Bruce brings to mind his perfect untouchable hair, denim jacket, black leather vest and all the good times we had. I will always remember and miss Bruce’s smile, his sense of humor, his friendship and his compassion. Even though it has been many years since we last saw each other and usually only on sad occasions, Bruce will always hold a place in my heart. Rest in peace Zav. My deepest sympathy to his family. - Posted by: Tammy Troschuk Walker (Old Friend) on: Jul 19, 2012

  • In the early eighties Bruce used to bleach his new jeans and then drag them behind his mini bike on the gravel roads to give them more character. I always smile when I think of that. - Posted by: Darrel Feledechuk (school friend) on: Jul 19, 2012

  • Dear Zavislake Family. I to am saddened by the loss of Bruce. I have not seen Bruce in over 30 yrs but remember him fondly. He always had a smile on his face and a heart of gold. Many a fun time was shared and had by Bruce. Last October the St. Andrew's Grade 9 class of 1974 had a reunion at Larters Golf Course. Even though Bruce was a year younger than us there were many people there that night that remembered Bruce and spoke quite highly of him. Once again my Sincere Condolences to the family. - Posted by: Ronda (Yuzark) Pfeiffer (St. Andrew's Grade School Friend) on: Jul 18, 2012

  • So sorry to hear about Bruce's recent passing. Bruce will always be remembered as someone who was a true friend to everyone he met. I'm thinking back tonight to the time when St. Andrews was a sleepy little town north of winnipeg and then Bruce moved here. I wouldn't even know where to start when it came to Bruce teaching us how to enjoy ourselves. Hundreds and hundreds of memories all his St. Andrews friends will have forever. Miss you........Jim Scromeda - Posted by: Jim Scromeda (classmate and friend from St.Andrews) on: Jul 18, 2012

  • Bruce was hard working and very well liked at Canada Post, we have missed Bruce's presence at work and are very sad he is gone, but he will never be forgotten, we talk of him often and enjoy our fond memories of working alongside him. Very sorry for your loss - Posted by: camellia penner (co worker) on: Jul 18, 2012

  • Bruce was always a sweetheart & would give anyone the shirt off his back. Our little St. Andrews group in high school partied a lot, went camping to Birds Hill, bowling & more. We could always count on Bruce for some laughs and if we met up with him over the years, he always continued to be our Bruce. Everyone knew not to touch his mane of hair as he would feign anger but that never stopped me. I do so wish we had stayed in touch over the last many years, only seeing each other at sad occasions. I will always remember & love my old friend in my heart. Until we meet again. Rest in Peace, Zav!! Say Hi to my Mom & Auntie Ellen, they both liked you a lot. My sincerest condolences to his Mom. - Posted by: Debi Troschuk Lamothe (old friend) on: Jul 18, 2012
