Born: Oct 26, 1947
Date of Passing: Jul 20, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALBERT (AL) JAMES RICHARD October 26, 1947 - July 20, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Al Richard on July 20, 2012, at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg. Survived by his wife Shirley (nee Chartrand); sisters Jennie (Morris); Georgina (Joe); Marg (Oliver); Brother Brian; in-laws: Paul (Hazel); Sarah; Leonard (Leona); Andy (Flora); Doreen (Walter); Patsy; also many nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by his son Al junior, parents Telfer and Sarah Richard, brothers Wilfred, Morris, Lawrence and sister Helen, father and mother-in-law Joe and Mary Chartrand, brothers-in-law Alfred and John, and recently sister-in-law Alice. Al grew up in Oak Point and later moved to Winnipeg where he attended Red River College. He completed the courses for the trades of plumbing and welding. This eventually led him to the Pukatawagon School. Al worked there as a maintenance supervisor for 20 years before retiring due to ill health. Since Al was good with his hands, he became known as a "Mr. Fix it". With Al's vast knowledge with plumbing, electrical, and bike or car repairs people would always stop him on the street or call him to get his advice. He was always willing to lend a hand. Al was passionate about life. He enjoyed playing guitar and shooting pool. Al also loved to cook where he could whip up a batch of homemade soup and fresh bannock from scratch. He not only was avid reader but Al was also a captivating story teller. He could spend hours reminiscing about days gone by. These memories of him will be etched in our hearts forever. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Laurent Roman Catholic Church. Father Michel Nault will officiate. Interment will take place at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Cemetery, Oak Point. If friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the renovations of the Inwood Community Hall, Inwood, Manitoba, ROC 1P0. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the nursing staff at Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital. Their compassion and care was truly appreciated. Thank you to the doctors and nursing staff on the G4 unit at Health Sciences Centre and also to Al's niece Donna. MacKenzie Funeral Home Stonewall in care of arrangements. 204-467-2525
