She went peacefully with family by her side. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband William "Gus" Wasiuta, children Darlene (Grant), Steve (Gloria), and grandchildren Alyssa, Kylie, and Cole. Lillian is predeceased by her parents Stephen and Annie, brother Bill, John and sister Mary. She was born in Whitemouth, MB, on April 14, 1928. As a young girl she grew up on a farm in Elma, MB, and had a very special gift in music. She married William "Gus" Wasiuta on June 21, 1947. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary a month ago. Dad always called her My guardian angel . She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren, and took pride in each of their accomplishments. The most important gifts she gave her grandchildren were passing down her traditions and heritage. She had the gift of hospitality. She loved to feed everyone and all were welcome in her home. There was always room for one more at the table. Her favorite place was in the kitchen, whether it be making perogies, baking cookies or having tea, with Ukrainian polka music playing in the background. She also knit many scarves, hats, mitties, and afghans, for all the people in her life. Lillian donated her knitting to Ducks Unlimited Canada fundraising events. Viewing will take place Wednesday, July 25, 2012, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home , 4477 Main Street. A Celebration of Lillian's life will take place Thursday, July 26, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Reception will follow. A private family interment will take place prior to the Celebration. Thank you to friends and family for your support at this difficult time. A special thank you to the emergency department of Seven Oaks and Grace Hospital (4 South and ICU) for their care and compassion. Lil was one of the sweetest people I have ever met, along with her husband Gus. You couldn't ask for better neighbours, who welcomed us into their home like we were family. I will always remember her beautiful smile while wearing my knitted hat, scarf & mitts she made. And will miss the best apple pie ever this summer. Lil was so proud of her family, and our hearts go out to each and every one of you. - Posted by: Christine, Jeff, Allysa & Brianna Solberg (Neighbours ) on: Jul 25, 2012

A delightful personality, constant smile and a genuine caring for others are my fondest memories of a wonderful lady. Lillian's dear husband, Gus, often referred to her as his "Earth Angel", and having known her, I understand why. I have particular warm memories of enjoying many lunches over the Christmas seasons around her kitchen table, and it was evident how she loved to entertain and provide fabulous cuisine to guests in her home. Beverly and I extend our deepest sympathy and our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this most difficult time. Sincerely, Jamie Berzuk - Posted by: Jamie Berzuk () on: Jul 24, 2012

Gus, Darlene & Steve, Please accept our deepest sympathy in your sorrow. I was one of the fortunate recipients of a 'Lil's' afghan and each time I wrap myself in it I am reminded of good times and good friends. She was a wonderful friend. Dana is in a Nursing Home in New Brunswick and I will tell him of this sad news. I know he joins with me in sending our condolences. - Posted by: Jean Trenholm (Friend) on: Jul 24, 2012

I was introduced to Lil (and Gus) when was I was about 18 when I became friends with Darlene. It was very memorable because the love and acceptance into their home was instant and all encompassing! Lil loved and accepted me just because I was Darlene's friend. And that was all it took. Over the years that never changed. Lil loved me, my husband and our kids in her own way. She had a very unique way of making you feel so very special. What a wonderful and marvelous woman. Anyone who knew Lil was blessed!!! How wonderful to know that she is with Jesus and able to experience the rewards of her full life. Ruthe - Posted by: Ruthe Penner (Family friend) on: Jul 23, 2012

We will always remember Auntie Lily and her great smile, wonderful laugh, and her happy personality. And also her fabulous cooking. My dad, John, her brother, would always tell us about how he called his sister, Lily, and got all these great recipes for perogi, pickles, borchst, etc. She was just one of those people you could not help but love. I have great memories of her from our visit there many years ago and through my dad, John, who visited there a few years ago. He talked about that visit until he passed away. Greatest time he had there with his family. She will be missed. But she will live on in our hearts forever. Love you Auntie Lily. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Lorri Wolff, Wendy Volk, Wayne Miller (Neices and Nephew of Lillian Wasiuta) on: Jul 23, 2012

I spoke to Auntie Lilly in December and she sounded great. She was my dad's sister and they spoke often. Dad loved visiting her and the whole family recently. She was such a generous, caring person. She will be missed greatly. - Posted by: Wendy Volk (Niece) on: Jul 23, 2012

We were blessed to be the neighbours next door! We will miss you immensely Lil and we will remember you forever in our hearts. You and Gus were more than just neighbours, you are our best friends, like Grandma and Grandpa to us, like a Mom and Dad. Thank you Lil, for sharing your family with us for the last 20 years. We have learned so much in terms of how a loving family should be by listening to your stories and seeing how you and Gus lived your lives. Thank you, too the whole Wasiuta family, our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to you all. With Love, Andy, Lori, Stephanie and Leanna - Posted by: Andy, Lori, Stephanie and Leanna Chartrand ((Neighbours next Door) ) on: Jul 23, 2012
