ELSIE BERNICE BRUNGER March 1, 1937 - July 26, 2012 With great sadness we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Elsie Brunger of Woodlands, gracefully on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at the Selkirk Hospital after a long and difficult journey. Elsie was born and raised in Warren, Manitoba, the eighth child of Benjamin and Marjorie King. In 1954, she moved to Inwood, Manitoba, to teach at Rondeau School. There she met Jorgen Brunger, the love of her life, and they were wed in 1956. In 1958, they moved to the Woodlands area where they farmed, worked in Winnipeg, and raised their children until Jorgen's untimely death when Elsie was just 40 years old. When Jorgen became sick, Elsie took a job at Josten's School Services, knowing that she would one day be raising the children on her own. She was a valuable employee and team leader there from 1973 to 1993. She married Ernest Naf of Angusville in 1980. He was her partner in life until his death in 1997. Committed to her faith, Elsie dedicated her life to service to others. She was a strong community leader for over 40 years, forming as well as managing the Meadow Lea United Church youth groups (1965 to 1980) and the Four Corners 4-H Club (1970 to 1980); acting as secretary to the Meadow Lea United Church Women's group for 46 years (1964 to 2010); and working behind the scenes to keep her little church alive and vibrant, holding various positions on the Board and even supplying its organists (her children) from 1974 to present. In 1998, following the death of husband Ernie, she took training and became a Church clown. She described this as a way to don the mask of her new identity as a widow for the second time. Tilly the Clown facilitated at Church services and was a well- loved presence at community children's events. Elsie was predeceased by her husband Jorgen Brunger (1977), husband Ernie Naf (1997), son David Andrew Brunger (1991), sister Jennie Horsman, and brother Ron King. Left behind to mourn her loss and celebrate her legacy are: daughters Karen (Louis Radocchia) of Toronto, Fern (Michael Duckett) of St. John's and Montreal, Eva (Stuart Finch) of Marquette, and son Darryl (Kristen Hooper) of Woodlands; grandchildren Rianna Radocchia (Adam Maloney) of Perth, Australia, Jasmine Prior, Elissa Radocchia, India Prior, Julian Radocchia, David Walker, Tristan Brunger, Selena Walker, Ethan Brunger, and Jordan Brunger; sisters Myrtle (Gordon) Smith of Eriksdale and Doris (Jim) Hunter of Warren, and brothers Marvin (Eileen) King of Warren and Harold (Doreen) King of Winnipeg; and numerous beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews. Faith, Hope and Love; But the Greatest of these is Love Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at Warren United Church, with lunch to follow at Warren Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Elsie Brunger to the Meadow Lea United Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 52, Marquette Manitoba, R0H 0V0.
