Condolences & Memories (14 entries)

  • I wish I had gotten to meet you before you left Windsor, Uncle Fred. I have heard many stories about you, and you seemed like a great man. We all love and miss you, but I'm sure you're singing your heart out up there with grandma! - Posted by: Ally Cadarian (Neice) on: Oct 18, 2014

  • Fred is an amazing person. I've known him for about 16 years. I haven't seen him for over a year now, we lost touch due to him not being able to hear me. I've still been praying for him and I had no idea he had passed. I am deeply upset I wasn't at his service. He was at our family dinner every Christmas and both mine and my brothers birthdays every year. He would make things with his senior friends and then give them to me. In fact I have a pot he painted with some pen flowers on my desk. Every time I saw him he'd ask if I had a boyfriend and tell me boys are no good. He cared about me a lot and my family. We loved him. I feel horrible I lost touch with him, and he will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Morgan Bernier (Neighbour and friend,) on: Aug 27, 2013

  • He was my neighbor on Polson when I was a baby. My mom would tell me that Margaret and him would take care of me, sing songs for me. He knew that my parents were struggling financially and they would buy baby essentials for me. He would shovel the snow in our walkway because my dad works at 5 am and my mom was taking care of me! He scared away the kids who kept stealing apples from the apple tree, they gave me lots of toys and clothes. I still have this one bear that they gave me when I was born and it has ALWAYS sat on my head board because I really appreciated both of them. Neighbors like him have never existed since we moved. I wanted to visit Fred, but of course it has been over 24 years, and I did not have the courage to knock on his door, worrying that he might not remember me. Rest in paradise Mr. Hardwood - Posted by: Tim Khuu () on: Sep 26, 2012

  • Fred definitely was someone I looked up to and idolized. His strength, and charisma was un-matchable. When he performed at RTM, he put all he had and then dash more into his performance. He was also the friendliest man I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. His smile brought a smile to my face. There was definitely something magical About Fred. I know he will be missed by all of his friends and family...and his fan. - Posted by: Matt (Elvis Cash) Boutilier (Friend) on: Sep 18, 2012

  • I remember the first time I saw Fred at RTM he was sitting on his walker beside my table and I invited him to come and sit with us. I remember he always used to say that he appreciated that I invited to come and sit with us. He had more energy than people half his age. When I(Wendy) had my parents visiting they fell in love with Fred and every time I'd see Fred he'd ask how my folks were doing and they would always ask how he was doing. I(Debi) always loved to hear him sing his songs and tell his jokes I'll miss him, RIP Fred until we meet again in heaven. - Posted by: Debi and Wendy (friends) on: Aug 11, 2012

  • I will miss Uncle Fred's singing of Irish and wartime songs. A great old soldier who served us well. Remember well his great delight in breeding budgies down the basement of the family home on Polson Ave. Condolences to the rest of the survivors, especially to Brent Linton who cared for him in his latter years. - Posted by: John Linton (Nephew) on: Aug 08, 2012

  • Our friendship with Fred is something we will never forget. We shared a lot of laughs and good times over lunches and dinners as well as RTM. • Fred performed with my band almost every Thursday for six years. His love of music and also his great optimism are things I will never forget about our friend Fred. I have witnessed him bring people to tears with his beautiful and heartfelt voice. He always had a smile for everyone and a song in his heart. I am honoured to have been his friend and to have shared the stage with him. A wonderful man who will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Danny Kramer (Friend) on: Aug 08, 2012

  • We know Fred at the Rock the Mic at McPhillips Casino every Thursday. He was a good singer every night. He even dedicated his songs to his friends and we all enjoyed his company. He was our inspiration every Thursday night, inspite of his age he was enjoying with us dancing and singing. We will all miss you at the RTM. Our deepest sympathy and our prayers to his loved ones left behind. Take care and God bless - Posted by: Edith Ganding and Alejandro Ganding (Friends) on: Aug 08, 2012
