FLORA LAING Peacefully on August 7, 2012, Flora passed away at St. Norbert Personal Care Home, with her family by her side. She is survived by her son Ian (Rochelle), daughter Mary Ann, grandson Daniel, sisters Lillianne, Rita and Doris, as well as many nieces and nephews. Flora was predeceased by her husband George in 1975; parents Clarence and Anita Leger; brothers Len, Raymond, Alyre, Alderice, Robert and Arcade; sisters Helen and Claire. Flora was born in Shediac, NB on May 12, 1922 one of 12 children. As a young child, she dreamed of becoming a nurse. In 1943 she realized her dreams and completed her training as a RN. Flora nursed at Christie Street Hospital in Toronto where she met her future husband George, eventually moving to Winnipeg and marrying in 1948. She worked at the Winnipeg General Hospital until motherhood became her new priority. After the children were grown Flora returned back to her beloved career and nursed at Deer Lodge Veterans Hospital until she retired in 1982. Flora passionately loved her nursing career and her family. She was a born nurturer and nothing gave her more pleasure than to be able to help advise those she loved. Flora also had a comical sense of humour which was still evident in her later days as she struggled with Alzheimer's. She leaves behind many warm and wonderful memories that will live on in the hearts of all she touched. Her love of her family and compassion for others was evident until her final days. The family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff of St. Norbert Personal Care Home for the wonderful care and support they all gave to both Flora and the family. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My deepest condolences for the loss of your mother. I just heard of her passing from my mother (your aunt Simone) this evening. I remember your Mom as being a very lovely lady who I admired. My dad (your uncle Alyre) always spoke very highly of his sister the nurse. Because of your Mom...I also choose nursing as my career. May she rest in peace with all of her siblings who have passed...xox - Posted by: Joanne Babineau (niece) on: Oct 22, 2012

  • I met your mom while my mother was also at St. Norbert PCH. During the time I knew her, she was always on the job, helping with whatever tasks she could. At times, you could find her snoozing, curled up in the easy chair by the nurses station. The nurses station was her ocean sounds. - Posted by: Bonny Bonneville () on: Aug 12, 2012
