HAROLD KELL 1918 - 2012 Peacefully, on August 7, 2012, Harold Kell passed away at the age of 93. Harold is predeceased by his parents Henry and MaryAnn Kell (nee Heslop), all of his siblings Evelyn, Lance, Elsie, Allan, Stanley and Norman, his beloved wife Laurette in 1977, and his beloved wife Maryanne in 2010. He is survived by his children Maureen (David), Wayne (Glenda), Keith (Gail), Dennis (Susan), Jess (Donna), Cindy (Larry), Kathy, 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Harold was born in the Roblin, Manitoba, area in December 1918. He and his family also lived for some years in Ninga and Killarney, Manitoba, before he settled in Winnipeg. In November of 1940, Harold enlisted in the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and served in the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division. Along with tours in Belgium, Italy and Holland, Harold was a proud member of the Canadian Forces landing on Juno Beach in Normandy, France on D-Day, June 1944. In July 1945, Harold suffered wounds and was discharged on demobilization. In 1950, Harold married Laurette Lavalleé. They made their home in Winnipeg where they raised their family. They were married for 27 years. In 1982, Harold married Maryanne Steppler (nee Rodgers) and they too lived in Winnipeg. They were married for 27 years. Harold worked at Blackwood Beverages (Pepsi) for many years until his retirement in 1983. Harold was an Active member of ANAVETS unit 283 for 48 years and enjoyed spending time with friends at the club. Over the years he was involved in many activities at the club including darts, curling and the unit's marching band. In his retirement Harold enjoyed a variety of activities including fishing, camping, gardening and woodworking. A watchmaker by trade, one of Harold's favourite hobbies was repairing watches and clocks. Watching his Blue Jays on TV and complaining about the pitching would be an especially good day spent! Harold was a kind, generous, respectful man. He was a wonderful patriarch for his blended family. He always enjoyed a good laugh and nothing made him happier than having the family together for any occasion. Our family would like to thank all the staff and volunteers at Grace Hospice for the outstanding level of care given to all of us. Flowers are gratefully declined but friends are welcome to make a donation in Harold's memory to the Grace Hospital Foundation or the Winnipeg Humane Society. Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 13, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Reception will follow at the ANAF Unit 283, 3584 Portage Avenue.
