AGAPITA MIRANDA FINLAY (nee OROBIA) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Agapita Miranda Finlay (nee Orobia) on Friday, August 10, 2012, at Charleswood Care Centre at the age of 66 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Agapita leaves behind her loving, devoted husband of 36 years Howard, and her loving daughters Stacy and Trina. She also leaves behind her oldest sister Cornelia Maligaya (Avelino deceased) and her family Catherine Gregorio (Wayne) and daughters Wyan, and Zuri, Apple Catapang (Junjun) and son Eyzi, her brother Rommel Orobia (Nica) and son Ralfjacin, sister-in-law Agnes Orobia (Gabriel deceased) and her family Maribel Abrenica (Bernard) and sons Cerio and Felipio and Joseph (Jennifer) daughter Lauren and son Milano and brother-in-law Rudy Umali and niece Analiza Umali and extended families Orobias, Finlays, Offenbergers, Hrappsteads, Bunos, Dukes, Peraltas, and Advientos and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Rafael and Antonia, sister Victoria, brother Gabriel, brother-in-law Avelino Maligaya and mother-in-law Marjorie Finlay. Agapita was born on March 24, 1946, in Balas Talisay Batangas, Philippines, to Rafael and Antonia. She moved to Canada on June 19, 1973, to live with her brother in Ear Falls, Ontario. She worked as a lab technician at Red Lake District Hospital. She met Howard in 1974, and they got married on June 19, 1976, in Ear Falls. They had two wonderful daughters together. In November of 1986, they moved to Winnipeg. Agapita started working in 1988, at Boeing as a plastic technician and worked until her retirement in 2004. Agapita loved to knit, sew and crochet clothes, doilies, and many other things, often making matching outfits for her daughters. She loved to cook and bake and especially enjoyed doing it for others. Neighbours often looked forward to her lumpia every Christmas Eve. In 2005, Agapita was unfortunately diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Howard was so devoted to his wife that he took care of her at home until July 7, 2011, when she was admitted to the Grace Hospital because the disease had progressed so much. After she was admitted to the hospital and nursing home, he continued to show his devotion and spent many hours everyday by Agapita's side. The love between Howard and Agapita is so apparent and will live on for eternity. Lamay will be held Wednesday, August 15, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2012, at Blessed John XXIII Roman Catholic Parish, 3390 Portage Avenue, with Father Gerald Langevin presiding. Interment and reception to follow at Chapel Lawn. The family would like to thank the staff on the 3rd floor, 5th floor and Emergency at the Grace Hospital as well as the staff at Charleswood Care Centre for the care, love, and support that they have provided Nanay and her family over the past year. We really appreciated everything the staff has done for us. We would also like to thank all of our family and friends for their love, support and prayers during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba or the Grace Hospital Foundation in Agapita's name. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.mb.ca 885-9715
