IRIS VIOLA LEE We regret to announce the passing of Iris Viola Lee, on August 8, 2012, at the age of 80 in Victoria, B.C. Sister to Wally and Vic and lovingly known as Auntie Iris by nieces Jennifer, Andrea and Darlene and nephew Wally. Iris was born in Winnipeg on January 15, 1932, to George and Edith Lee. Iris lived with and cared for both of her aging and ailing parents until their passing. Iris loved her job at the Winnipeg Free Press where she was employed for 23 years. In 1981, she left many good friends in Winnipeg and departed for beautiful Vancouver Island to be closer to her brother Wally and his young family. She brought along her pride and joy - a 1963 Mercury Meteor in Robin's Egg blue. Iris still owned the car at the time of her death. Iris was an avid newspaper reader and had a keen interest in following the stock market. One never had to read the paper to find out what was going on in the world; just ask Iris. Iris was predeceased by her parents, her brother Vic and his wife Nora and by her sister-in-law Jerrine. She is survived by her brother Wally, his daughters Jennifer and Andrea, as well as her niece and nephew Darlene and Wally in Ontario. Also by her great-nieces Tessa, Amber, Scarlett and baby Halle. Iris has been a supporter of the Sleeping Children Around the World charity since 1995, and donations to this wonderful organization in memory of Auntie Iris would honor her memory. www.scaw.org Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I've been thinking of Iris lately and feeling bad because I never answered a letter she sent me when she moved to Victoria. I worked side by side with her in the Winnipeg Free Press newsroom for seven years and now remember her as a true friend. I'll never forget that she sometimes called me Moodrey Manitoba Morning! I am so sad to hear she's gone. I googled her name in the hopes of getting an address and sending a much belated reply to her kind letter! - Posted by: Gloria Moodrey (co-worker) on: Mar 12, 2014
