SHERRY (SHATSKY) THOMPSON
Date of Passing: Aug 21, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHERRY (SHATSKY) THOMPSON With heavy hearts we lovingly remember our dear Sherry, mom, bubbie and friend who passed away on August 21, 2012 at the early age of 77. Sherry leaves behind the love of her life, her husband of almost 60 years, Myer; her children Pam and Marty, Neil and Rick and Marley-Anne; her grandchildren Jordan and Amy; her sister Eleanor (Morris) and brother Morley (Char) as well as many nieces and nephews and their children. Sherry was predeceased by her mother and father, Bert and Miriam Shatsky, as well as her sister Bernice Birnbach. Born in 1934 in the North End, Sherry attended St. John's High School. Married at the young age of 18 Sherry was eager to start a family. To all of those who loved her, she was the heart and soul of her family. Nothing was more important than her husband and children and grandchildren. She was a very wise woman who would quietly share her thoughts and encouragement. An endlessly positive woman, nothing could stop Sherry's love and enthusiasm for life, family and friends. Although a quiet and private person, Sherry's endless ability to do for others knew no boundaries. No was not a word in her vocabulary. Along with being a wife, mother and bubbie, Sherry had also been a member of ORT and Hadassah for many years, as well as a member of the Shaarey Zedek choir for 40 years. Music was a great part of her life as was painting, crocheting, knitting and needlepoint. A very talented cook, Sherry was most famous for her baking. She never hesitated to offer up her chocolate log or other goodies to whoever was having a simcha or event. And everybody who knows Sherry knows there is no other komish like hers. Summers combined Sherry's greatest loves of all. Being at the cottage at Winnipeg Beach and having her family there with her. Shabbat dinners were always ready and waiting when everyone came out on Friday nights. And of course the famous pickle making took place there every summer for the past 30 years as well. Sherry's legacy will be left with all of those who she taught how to knit or crochet, bake or play maj, or simply loved with her heart and soul. As a family we are grateful and extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at CancerCare Manitoba, particularly Dr. Fatoie, Dr. Amhed and Dr. Navaratnam, as well as the wonderful care she received at Seven Oaks Hospital. Funeral Services were held at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue on Friday, August 24, 2012. Pallbearers were Jordan Vine, Baillie Burke, Joel Burke, David Burke, David Birnbach and Morley Shatsky. Honourary Pallbearers were Louise and Lorne Raber and Gary Sprintz. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, or any charity of choice.

There was me, Faye, Sheila, Sherry and Phyllis - the latter two responsible for the gorgeous sound that came from the alto section. Sherry (the face) always smiling and laughing - I have carried these memories with me all the time I lived in England and in the States. My sincerest sympathies to all her family-she will be missed. - Posted by: Samantha Sills (Silverman) (Sang with Sherry at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue for a long time.) on: Dec 25, 2013

Somehow the terrible news that Sherry died did not come our way until now. She was a lady we long knew, admired. Our sincere condolences to all who loved her. - Posted by: Phyllis and Nate Dana (Old Friends and Harmonizer) on: Sep 12, 2012
