NORMA MILDRED SCHNERCH (BARNERT) After a courageous and bravely fought battle, our beloved Norma succumbed to the ravages of cancer and returned to God in the early hours of August 23, 2012. She left us as she lived; quietly, lightly, and with concern for those she loved. Her devoted husband Frank was at her side as she slipped away. She was the loveliest of women, so gentle, a treasure poured into a fragile frame. She was predeceased by her parents George and Mildred Barnert and her brother Donald. Norma was born 68 years ago and grew up on the family farm at Sanford, Manitoba. She loved the farm, and her older brothers Gerry (Coreen) and Len (Audrey.) She happily rescued pigs and chicks to warm them by the furnace, loved harvest time, would drive anything, using the heaviest thing about her a lead foot, avoided as many domestic chores as possible, and remained the apple of her father's eye. She moved to Winnipeg, began a career, married her love Frank, enjoyed traveling, sewing and gardening, and eventually became a devoted caregiver to her wonderful parents and aunts. She happily spent time doing delightful things for and with her nieces and nephews in Winnipeg; Michael (Michelle), Kelly (Glen), Doug (Karen) who treasured her, and her great-nephews and nieces. She watched over Gerry's family from a distance. As well, she was the other mother to Scott and Lisa Janke, who adored her. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, on Wednesday, August 29 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, R3R 0V9 or the charity of one's choice. Special thanks to Dr. Harris and staff at Grace Hospital Cancer Care. May her memory be a blessing. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.mb.ca 885-9715
