DORIS MAE BURNS (nee MARRIOTT) The family announces, with deep sorrow, the peaceful passing of Doris Mae Burns (Marriott) on Friday, August 24, 2012. Doris is survived by her daughter Bev (Gerry) and son Barry (Gail). She was predeceased by her loving husband Bill in 1989, and her brothers Reg and Clarence. Born in Halifax, and always a Bluenoser at heart, Doris worked at HMC Dockyard in Halifax and that's where she met her husband Bill, who was a naval officer. They married in Halifax in 1945, and moved to Winnipeg after the war. She spent most of her working life in the field of education, serving at Golden Gate Jr. High School and St. James Collegiate and 22 years at Manitoba Teachers Society where she retired in 1990. Doris enjoyed many happy, memory-filled summers with her family at both Kenora and Bemidji. She was also a keen bridge player and had over 50 years of fun and camaraderie with her bridge club. She was a woman of great faith and was a long standing member of Westminster United Church. Our family knew the depth of her love and concern as did many people who were touched by her caring and consideration. Special thanks to Shauna, Lillian and all the staff at Sturgeon Creek II Residences. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 30 at the Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Ave., across from Brookside Cemetery In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CNIB, P.O. Box 8000, Stn. Main, Winnipeg, MB, R3C9Z9. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
