SUSANNA CHRISTINE (TOOTS) LAING Susanna Christine (Toots) Laing of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away August 24, 2012, at Riverview Health Centre after a life well lived. Born April 28, 1928, to Ted and Alice Broughton at Creelman, Saskatchewan, the last of 10 children, she married Hamish (Jim) Laing on July 29, 1954, at Griffin, Saskatchewan. After attending high school she went to Normal School and took up teaching in rural Saskatchewan. Later moving to Weyburn, Saskatchewan, to be a telephone operator, this is where she met Jim. Toots and Jim lived in numerous locations in Saskatchewan before calling Winnipeg their home. During these moves, she developed a skill for playing bridge. A regular at the Friday Creakers Bridge Club, she competed in many duplicate Bridge Tournaments in both Canada and the U.S.A. and won many trophies and awards. Through the years, she developed a passion for quilting. As an accomplished quilter she graced family and friends with her beautiful quilts. Anyone who has one of her quilts will cherish the love that was stitched into each one. She was famous for her sense of humour, love of life and the odd glass of wine! She is survived by her husband Jim of Winnipeg, Robert (Barb) Laing of Regina, Saskatchewan, Donna (Ray) Shewfelt of Falcon Lake, Manitoba, grandchildren Jennifer (Cory) Harden of Regina, Saskatchewan, Andrew (Danielle) Laing of Ottawa, Ontairio, Amanda Shewfelt of Calgary, Alberta, and Lyndsay (Robert) Moore of Ste. Agathe, Manitoba. The family would like to thank Dr. Winnogrodzka and the compassionate staff at CancerCare Manitoba, Riverview Health Centre and Palliative Care. Memorial donations can be made in Toots' memory to The Riverview Health Centre or CancerCare Manitoba. A private family ceremony has taken place. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.mb.ca 885-9715
