HAROLD JEFFREY (JEFF) BRETT April 22, 1930 - August 28, 2012 With heavy hearts we lovingly remember our dear Jeff, Dad and Poppa who passed away peacefully, at home, on August 28, 2012. Jeff was a loving husband and best friend of 55 years to Aldis, doting father to Kathy (Frank), Peter, Karen (Shawn) and Kristen (Jason), and proud Poppa to Russell (Dara), Robin (Shae), Alison, Nick, Aela and Cassidy. Jeff is survived by brother, Paul Brett of Victoria, BC. He is predeceased by brothers Doug, John, Dudley; sisters Betty and Wynne; and son-in-law, Randy. Jeff was born in Medicine Hat, AB and eventually settled in the Wolseley area with the Brett clan. He attended Wolseley, Isaac Brock and Gordon Bell schools. Jeff was active and social, involved in Student Council, sports, music and theatre. He was an avid Scout and loved the outdoors. Charismatic, warm-hearted, and a fun-loving optimist, Jeff connected with everyone he met. He excelled in theatre and sports, especially skiing, football and golf. His passion for nature and forestry led him into his first major job in the lumber industry in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. He then switched gears and entered the automotive industry. He had a strong work ethic and was known for his honesty and integrity. He had a loyal following of customers throughout his career because of these qualities. Jeff helped build the family cottage at Brereton Lake with his father and brothers in 1948. This oasis became a treasured second home for all of us as we swam, skied, hiked, canoed, picked blueberries and laughed til we cried. Brereton was forever in his heart. He made our home in Charleswood a haven, too, where he tended his garden and fishpond with TLC. Many backyard science lessons were taught as he shared his love of nature with his adoring grandchildren. Jeff, Dad, Poppa ... you will be forever missed, yet always with us ... in the sound of lapping waves, rustling leaves, infectious laughter... May the road rise up to meet you ... until we meet again. Special thank you to the Palliative and Home Care staff for your support. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9 or a charity of choice. A celebration of Jeff's life will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery).
