Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAY PAUL DIRKS On Monday, August 27, 2012, Jay Paul Dirks of Winnipeg, MB was taken home to be with the Lord after a six-month fight with cancer, at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, at the age of 29. Jay was born in Steinbach on July 25, 1983. He spent his summers growing up at Red Rock Bible Camp and continued on as staff. Jay was most known for his voice. He belonged to various choirs including: Eastman Youth Choir, Prairie Voices, Providence College, National Youth Chorus, University of Manitoba, Gilbert and Sullivan and many more. Jay attended the University of Manitoba and was to finish his second degree in Education this year. Jay will be remembered always and missed dearly. He is survived by his lovely wife Melissa Gayle Dirks (Yorke), parents Cliff and Iris Dirks, grandparents Malinda Dirks, Walter and Margret Reimer, his sister Robin Dirks Pay, her husband Erick and their children Kian and Keira, his brother Wren Dirks and his wife Renata Dirks and their daughter Sophia. Uncles, aunts, cousins, and many close friends were blessed by Jay touching their lives. A viewing will be held at Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church, 1771 Pembina Hwy. in Winnipeg on Friday, August 31 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 1 at 10:00 a.m. at the same location. Immediate family will attend the interment with a reception to follow at Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church. Donations may be made at any Steinbach Credit Union Branch in Winnipeg or Steinbach. My sincerest condolences to Jay's family, and especially to Iris, Cliff, and Robin. I watched Jay grow up every summer at Red Rock, a place that was very dear to us both. We are so sorry for your loss. I couldn't believe it when Janessa told us. We remember Jay from Red Rock, he was there when Janessa was a camper. Though I did not personally get to know Jay, I have had to work through my own personal experiences with loss of family members to cancer. My mother, father, and oldest brother (last year). Just want to express my deepest sympathies to Jay's family and friends. I was completely shocked to see Jays picture in the Free Press.
