HELEN ARNOULD Helen van Tongeren Arnould died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on June 8, 2012. She is gratefully remembered by her sons, Wayne (Pamela McLeod) and Lyle (Heather); her grandchildren, Christine Arnould (Chris Mart), Meredith Arnould (Robert Muhumuza), Scott McLeod Arnould, Rorie John McLeod Arnould, and Memory Arnould; by Mike Caliguere and his family, Geri, Brian, Lindsay, and Kelsey; her niece Sheila (Bev) and nephew Brian (Betty); and her dear friend Pat Zalkowsky. Helen was predeceased by her parents Neeljhe and Evert van Tongeren; by her husband, Clem, and her brothers and sisters, Alice, Jean, Nellie, Gerald and Edward. Helen was born in 1915 in Winnipeg, the youngest child in the family. She grew up on St. John's Avenue and worked, after she and Clem had raised their boys, as the office manager at Henderson Directories. In her later years, Helen created a full, independent, fun life for herself. She took up driving (1980 Mustang V8 and a white Cadillac - why not?), golfing, square dancing and line dancing, tai chi, five-pin bowling (185), art lessons, and completely redecorating three lovely apartments. Helen was always making new friends and especially enjoyed the companionship of Mary, Dorothy, and Carl, her weekly lunches with Pat, and many years of fun with Nona. Helen was a tiny lady, always perfectly coiffed and elegantly dressed in her trademark monochromatic ensembles. Underneath her sweet and light-hearted style, she was determined but realistic, unfailingly tolerant, gracious, sensitive to others, and generous - with gifts, with her time, and with her gratitude. She will be missed. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Wayne, Lyle and your families, I was sorry to read about your Mother's passing. I remember being at her/your home on Victor street. Your Mom was so friendly and nice to me when I visited. I also remember your Mother's Mother who made the greatest Chili Con Carne in the world. I wish I had seen this notice years ago. I will always have fond memories of Helen and our years together at Henderson Directories. Even after we both were no longer with the company, we would still get together for lunch from time to time over the years. She even made the trip out to visit my husband and myself on our farm after I got married. It was always such fun to get together with her and Eric to reminisce. She will be sorrowly missed. Our deepest Sympathy to the family. - Posted by: Lori (Madden) Penner (co-worker from Henderson Directories) on: Sep 11, 2012

Wayne, Lyle & Heather, Your Mother was always cheerful, sociable and witty whenever I bumped into her. Manitoba is less friendly without her! My deepest sympathy, Philip - Posted by: Philip Tan (Colleague of Wayne, Lyle & Heather @ MB Hydro) on: Sep 06, 2012
