DONALD YASCHESHYN
Date of Passing: Sep 03, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD YASCHESHYN October 15, 1952 - September 3, 2012 There's honour in a well-lived life... there's healing in remembering... there's hope in knowing love goes on forever. Carpenter - Athlete - Outdoorsman - History Buff - Voracious reader - Generous - Kind - Competitive - Witty - Fiercely loyal - Encouraging - Trusting - Highly principled - Creative - Compassionate - Honorable - Integrity - Insightful - Loving - Romantic - Gentleman, who would walk proudly with a farmer tan, clean, calloused hands a little leftover dirt under his nails. Don would walk the land and pick wildflowers for Betty. He never stopped reading and learning and could talk on almost any topic. He loved his kind of music which was instilled in Zach and Olivia's upbringing. He was a goofball, he could make something out of nothing , and he made the best Caesar salad. Insightful, wise and in Donnie's presence, life was never dull. Grant said, you guys should write a book!' This was our to do list (maybe). A good man gentle, caring, lived life hard and was well respected by all. Don gave so much happiness in our life. We all have a piece of him within us, just as he had a piece of you with him. Don is survived by Betty, his soul mate of 42 years. Zach and Olivia were the reasons he breathed for each new day. Leaving behind are many, many family, friends, colleagues, community, medical, professional and brothers / sisters of his union trade. On Friday, September 14, 2012 a Celebration of Life will take place, Selkirk Recreation Centre, Banquet Hall, 180 Easton Dr., Selkirk, MB at 1:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place. Contributions in his memory to Manitoba Lung Association or to the Canadian Mental Health Association, Manitoba Division. TA TA Lads and Lassies 204-586-8044

It's been a small while since you been gone brother, yes now I have to read war history books because you're not there to answer my questions thanks. When I walk to the lake or chill on the deck it's amazing how the people, friends, family I have lost cross my mind, Then a bird lands or dog barks or a shooting star crosses the sky, Yes it's, a passed friend or family member saying we're still here. I'm so glad my world has slowed down Don, cause I can see you and others in nature. Thank you brother Brian. - Posted by: Brian Yascheshyn (Brother) on: Jan 02, 2014

Think I'll go out to Alberta, weather's good there in the fall. Got some friends I could go work for. If I get there before the snow flies, you could meet me.... Four strong winds that blow lonely, seven seas that run high, all these things that do change come what may.... - Posted by: Barny Haines (Friend) on: Oct 10, 2013

Grief never ends, but it changes. It is a passage, not a place to stay. The sense of loss must give way, if we are to value the life that was lived. The first mile of this long journey has been travelled, starting with a single step. The ache of missing You is constant. Always close to our hearts with memories of You, every day. - Posted by: Betty (Wife) on: Sep 14, 2013

20 days ago, your smile left the earth. I feel you in everything I do, when the wind blows, when the birds sing, even when I can't hold back the tears - I feel you beside me. I miss you so much, words cannot even begin to explain it. But I love you enough to carry on, and be strong for mom the way you would want me to. I have complete faith that you will guide the man I'm supposed to spend the rest of my life beside, build a life with, the man that will show me the love, trust and complete devotion to as you did with mom. Can't wait to see you again Papa Bear. I love you till the sun burns out, and a day past then. - Posted by: Olivia Yascheshyn (Father) on: Sep 23, 2012

Betty & family - Judy and I are so sorry to hear about Don. He was one of the most classy guys I've ever known. Words cannot describe what a great person he was. Our thoughts and condolences are with you at this time. - Posted by: Bobby Freeman (old friend) on: Sep 14, 2012

Donnie "K" for those of us who played fastball with him in Tyndall. I hope you don't mind if I remember you as the lanky fielder from the city who could cover the base paths in record time and then walk off the field with a smile as wide as his shoulders. He chose to make the country his home. I will raise a "piveau" in your memory, he earned his "country boy" stripes and we were better for it. - Posted by: Rick Stefansson (Friend) on: Sep 14, 2012

Donnie always stuck up for his younger brothers. He was a great big brother and I was lucky to have witnessed that. I learnt to drive standard on his old Datsun. I was lucky to have known him. My heartfelt condolences to his family. This is a sudden and terrible loss. - Posted by: Abe and Karen Dyck (Friend ) on: Sep 13, 2012

Dear Betty and family, Oh, the memories. Can't hear "On the Road Again" without remembering the trips to St. Paul to see Willie Nelson or every New Year that reminds me of the New Years spent at your place. Donnie was a great friend and mentor to me when I started working in theatre. Due to a recent surgery I won't be able to join you for the service on Friday but I will be there in spirit. My heart is heavy but I send you all my love, prayers and best wishes. - Posted by: Laura Duncan (friend and former co-worker) on: Sep 13, 2012

We shared so many life experiences together, all great fun and never to be duplicated nor forgotten! Don, miss you, thought you and I would be forever exchanging endless life stories together, while sitting back, enjoying our "modified" rocking chairs. - Posted by: Walter Lehmann (Best of friends forever!) on: Sep 10, 2012

It was a childhood that few people have the privilege of experiencing and it was more rewarding to have done it with my best buddy Donny Y. - Posted by: Gordie Watkins (Friend forever) on: Sep 10, 2012

Aunty Lorraine, Betty, Zach, Oivia, Brian, Allan and Families, I remember sitting with Don at Aunty Kay's watching her make perogies, when Don could not wait any longer and reached out and swallowed 2 raw perogies. We all stared at him and all he said was "got any sour cream?". I didn't think we would ever stop laughing! Thinking of you all with love and prayers. - Posted by: Kerry (Kazina) Smith, Hal and Alfie (Family ) on: Sep 10, 2012

My most sincerest sympathy to all Donnie's family. Knowing the family for 53 years and having Donnie walk Brian and I to our first day of school, is a memory I will always cherish. Never too busy to yell out a greeting of "Hello" to anybody that sent him a wave, whether he was in a rush to go to one of his many sporting activities, shows his true wonderful personality he had. He also brought the neighbourhood alive when working at the MTS Centre and brought home our movie star dog home. Henderson was loved by all, thanks to a caring person who wanted the dog to continue a happy life. I am so sorry to hear of Donnie's passing and will NEVER forget him, Barb or Frank. That was neighborly love! - Posted by: Bev Basset (nee Wade) (friend & former neighbour) on: Sep 10, 2012

He's my brother. Don gave me big brother advice when needed. All his friends were my friends, which made this world a little more friendly. We slept, wept and played together. From this day on I will talk about his life not his death. Forever brother Brian. - Posted by: Brian Yascheshyn (brother) on: Sep 09, 2012
