DORIS GANGE Doris Gange went gentle into that good night on September 13, 2012, surrounded by the love of her family. Doris was predeceased by her husband Jack Gange, her parents Olivia and Sveinn Indridason, and her brothers Lorne and Gordon Indridason. She is survived by her children Judy Margeson (Larry), Lesley Gilchrist (Kent), Bill (Grazyna), Sheila Vickery (Craig), Val Desrochers (Marc), Cyndi Mason (Bill), Don (Heather), Sean, Maureen Brown (Andy Halischak) and Rhena Mennell (Karl Bergmann). She had 24 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Margaret Grisdale (Ted) and family in Calgary, her sister-in-law Joan Masters and family, the family of her late brother-in-law Norman Gange, cousins Louise and Peter Desormeaux and cousin Lorraine Moore (Don). Mom was born into an Icelandic family in Kandahar, SK. The family moved to Oxbow and then to Wolseley, SK which is where she graduated from high school. At a different time, she would have gone on to University to become an accountant but in her day she moved to Winnipeg to continue her studies taking a secretarial bookkeeping course. Upon graduation, she began working at the Johnstone Terminal Building. She loved to visit the Forks to reminisce about her early working career. She married Jack Gange in 1947 and began her remarkable career as a mother. Over the next 16 years, Mom had 10 children, all of whom felt that she loved them best. Doris and Jack spent 11 years in Regina before returning to Winnipeg in 1967, living in Westwood. The Gange clan produced the most graduates of Westwood Collegiate over the next 14 years. Mom worked at Wiley Mercury, Canadian Acceptance and ended her working career at the Royal Bank. When Jack died in 1975, there were still five children living at home. She never complained about her struggles. She simply did what she had to do and did it well. She loved to travel to visit her daughters Lesley and Cyndi and her sister Margaret. Special highlights include two trips to Iceland, where she was thrilled to meet many cousins, vacation trips to Cuba and Hawaii and cruising on the Pacific with her sister. She started every day by solving the daily crossword, Cryptoquote and Fourword. She was an avid photographer so that any family gathering included countless photos of all in attendance. She was an enthusiastic member of the Facebook generation and often knew more about her grandchildren than did their parents. Mom's greatest joy in life was her family. She was equally proud of each of her children. She loved all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was at every birthday party, graduation, music and dance recital, and family function. Nothing could make her happier than to have her family gathered together. The annual Gange Family Boxing Day Bowling Party was one of her favourite events, especially when her team won. Mom had a magnificent last summer. All of her children were in the City this summer and as a result she was busy with lunches and dinners and constant visiting. She was thrilled to have two family gatherings in the summer and to visit Mountain North Dakota's Icelandic festival with her sister Margaret. She lived life to the fullest until her illness surprised us all. We were blessed to have been the recipients of her pure and unconditional love. At Mom's request, a private family celebration of her life will take place in the future. Flowers are gratefully declined. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website.
