PAUL SLOTA (SLOTTA) On Saturday, September 15, 2012, surrounded by the love of his family, Paul peacefully left us to join his beloved wife Pearl. Dad will be lovingly missed by his son Garry, son Greg and wife Nicole, daughter Veronica and husband Alex, granddaughters Michelle, Angela, Katrina and Anastasia; his brothers Harry (Anne) of Toronto and Mervin (Mary) of Winnipeg, and also many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 100 Yale Avenue East in Transcona. Divine Liturgy will be Thursday, September 20 at 10:00 a.m. also at the church with Reverend Dr. Gregory Zubacz officiating. Interment will take place at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Birds Hill Park. Special thanks to the Holy Family Home for the last two years and the Dialysis Unit at Seven Oaks Hospital for the past three months for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul's memory to Holy Family Home or a charity of one's choice. A complete obituary ran in Tuesday's edition. PAUL SLOTA (SLOTTA) On Saturday, September 15, 2012, surrounded by the love of his family, Paul peacefully left us to join his beloved wife Pearl. Dad was born on the family farm in Oak Bank, MB on June 20, 1920 to Seman Slota and Paraskevia Pryndyk. Paul was the eighth of ten children. He attended Sunnyside School, one mile from home. Paul married the love of his life Pearl Maksymetz on May 31, 1952 in Cooks Creek, MB and were married until her passing in 1976. While living on the farm, they raised three children. In the fall of 1961 the family moved to Transcona where Paul lived until the spring of 2010. Dad farmed most of his life while taking jobs at nearby Elmhurst and Pine Ridge Golf Courses, the gravel pits and threshing for local farmers. He was employed at the Marlborough Hotel for 25 years, first as a waiter, next bartender and then Beverage Room Manager. He also worked at the Norvilla Hotel for a short time, then managed a hotel in Kenora, ON for several years, at the same time along with his partner, they opened a small business venture called Perogy Delight. Dad was a member of St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church for over 50 years where he attended regularly and also the Knights of Columbus and Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood. For the past two years, Dad lived at Holy Family Home where he was well cared for. He attended Divine Liturgy twice a week where he was happy to sing along to the hymns and responses. Whenever possible, Dad enjoyed attending the weekly bingo games, sing-a-longs and parties. Dad loved family, people and gatherings, he was a great cook and hosted many dinners at his home and on the farm. Paul was predeceased by his brother Michael (1981), only sister Pauline (1987), brothers Steve (2003), Reverend Juvenali (George) (2000), Walter (2005), William (2007) and Theodore (2011). PAUL SLOTA (SLOTTA) Peacefully with his family at his side, Paul passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2012, at Holy Family Nursing Home at the age of 92 years. Paul was predeceased by his beloved wife Pearl. He will be sadly missed by his children, Garry, Greg and Veronica and their families. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 100 Yale Avenue East, in Transcona.   • My Great Uncle Paul was truly a wonderful man! I will miss him dearly. While I only had the opportunity to generally visit with him once a year on family vacations (I live in Toronto), I will treasure those moments forever. I was so grateful to have shared a meal with Uncle Paul just last Thanksgiving on the farm and have a chance to speak with him and hear some old stories about our family.
