MARIA GUDRUN (MARY) LUGG (nee MAXON) 1924 - 2012 After living a full life of 88 years and struggling with health issues, Mary peacefully passed away, surrounded by the love of her family, on September 14, 2012. Mary was predeceased by her parents Saemunder (1932) and Rakel (1953), her husband Gordon (2011), and siblings Haldora Adelbjorg, Gunnlauger Marino, Herbert Sigurjon, Sigrun Olaf Bjorg, Fredrick Addelstein, Arni Halborg Raymond, Victor Helgi, and Oscar Edwin. Mary is survived by her son Kendall (Anna), daughter Kathy (Stewart), grandchildren Christie, Shawna, David, Jennifer, and great-grandchildren Keenan, Kalen, Bohdi, and Jackson. Mary was blessed to have many wonderful nieces and nephews, with roots in Selkirk, Brandon, Edmonton, Burnaby, Mission and Surrey. Mary will also be sadly missed by her childhood and lifelong friend Mildred Empson (nee Skagfjord). She was born and raised in Selkirk, Manitoba. Living through the depression and war instilled Mary with inner strength and courage. At the same time growing up with a large family filled Mary with a deep sense of respect, and love for family that she carried throughout her entire life. On April 17, 1948 Mary married Gord, the love of her life. Their life together began on Lyle Street and they eventually settled in a brand new home on Aldrich Avenue in 1961. Mary loved being a homemaker, and took pride in providing everything for her children. Supper was always on the table punctually at 5:00 p.m. sharp, and Sunday family dinners were her pride and joy. She appreciated having tea after meals, which meant more time to sit, and chat with loved ones. Christmas was special every year in the Lugg household and was highlighted by Mary's fresh baked vinarterta. Together Mary and Gord enjoyed the family cottage at Hunt Lake especially the walks into Westhawk for the Saturday night dances. They loved travelling, which began as camping with the kids to British Columbia and later in life included adventures to Hawaii, Arizona and Florida. Mary always looked forward to playing cards, and gained her expertise from playing Icelandic whist as a youth. While Gord made a point of cheating at cards at every opportunity, he chortled while he waited for the ever hawkeyed Mary to catch him. This game between them went on for 63 years, and somehow never got old. Mary treasured nature, animals, and was especially fond of dogs. Throughout her life the family had several dogs all of who were special in their own way and always remembered. She would always have a bickie' in her pocket when she visited other homes knowing a dog would be expecting a treat from her. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to all the staff at Charleswood Care Centre, and Golden West Centennial Lodge. Their compassion and caring eased a difficult journey. Funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to D'arcy's A.R.C, 730B Century Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3H 0M1. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
