ALFRED WILLIAM JOHNSON September 22, 1930 September 15, 2012 With his family by his side Alfred William Johnson passed away on September 15, 2012. He leaves to mourn his wife Gerry of 60 years, his children Susan (Les), David (Ursula), Pat (Dale), two grandsons Trevor (Liz) and Steven (Richelle). His special pride was his great-grandchildren Samantha, Michael, Seth and Katie. He gave his heart and soul into his jobs (Ontario Hydro, Aerofoam Chemicals, Edgewood Estates and Lakewood Agencies). His passion was to provide and take care of his family and those who needed him. He was never too busy to help someone. When he retired he put his heart into the Chatfield Museum and touched the lives of so many people. He loved history and politics and the beauty of nature that God so willingly gave us. He was a man of many talents. He taught his family how to respect people, how to give strength to others, how to appreciate nature and how to knit. He will be missed for many reasons, one is Who will darn our socks now? Special thanks to Dr. Wong and the Gimli Hospital. We could not have done this without all of you. Yes he was an amazing man. God provides strength for those who need it and this inner strength was evident in Alfred's life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the North East Palliative Care Unit or the Chatfield Museum to help carry on his dream. A private service will be held. Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Since my visit to the Chatfield Museum, I often thought of that visit, as my Family Tree project grew. Through it, I've connected with many distant relatives, and now have a long list for whom to pray. I'll remember Mr. Johnson in my prayers, too. - Posted by: Sr. Christine Dudych, SSMI (Museum visitor) on: Mar 12, 2023

  • Our heartfelt condolences to all the family on your great loss and sorrow. We have fond memories of Al. His hospitality and his friendliness were only surpassed by his love of family and the museum. He displayed his creativity in the many of his undertakings related to the museum and beyond. We admired his passion and his dedication. On our visits to the museum he would always take the time to update us on the additions and his creativity, whether an old building that he was restoring or the creation of walking paths that he so skillfully manicured. He must have been spending hours outdoors fixing, painting and improving on his many projects. Many people visited, not only from immediate areas, but from all parts of the country and often commented on the history of the Chatfield area that was found in the many artifacts that were displayed in the museum - and the wonders of these projects that Al and Gerry created. May his soul rest in peace. Vichnaya Pam'yat - Posted by: Norris & Jennie Pawlychka (friend) on: Oct 13, 2012

  • Dear Aunt Deanie, cousins Susan, David and Pat, and grandchildren. Uncle Al was a very special person who loved his family dearly and the Chatfield Museum. I'm happy that in 2007 while visiting my late father, Gerald, that my daughter Paige and I had the opportunity to spend time with him. Our condolences to the family at this time.
