Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • To Richard, Wendy, Penny and all of the Wynne family. I want to send my sincere condolences. Art was such an amazing man who led an amazing life, and I am thankful that he was a part of my family for so many years. There are so many words that could describe him, humble, selfless, generous, kind, wise, funny, tough... the list goes on. He had a heart big enough to share with everyone he met and knowing him is a treasure I will never forget. We loved him dearly and will miss him always. I hope that his kindness toward everyone is an example that lives in all of us forever. Chris Cowan - Posted by: Chris Cowan (Stepson) on: Sep 28, 2012

  • Sincere sympathy to Art's family - he was my dad's best friend during the war and they kept in touch even after. Another Black Watch hero who has left us. RIP Phyllis - Posted by: Phyllis O'Reilly (daughter of wartime friend, Mike Doran) on: Sep 25, 2012

  • Dear Wynne Family, We are very sorry to hear about the passing of this wonderful person Art! Since we moved back to The Netherlands we didn't have that much contact anymore though we met him for the last time back in October 2007 on Bethel Island. We keep fond memories of Art, the great stories about the war and his part of the liberation of Holland. We always had a warm welcome at his home and it felt as being a part of the great Wynne family. We will never forget Art's thoughts about peace and war; he sure was an inspiring person who taught us lessons about life. Thank you Art for being a part of our lives and may you rest in peace now. - Posted by: Bas Silvia Tijn Lili Trimbach - Knapen (Friend) on: Sep 23, 2012

  • Dear Wendy, Penny, Richard, Al, Gretchen, Peter, Sarah, Sophie and Dave, We don’t have all your email-adresses and I don’t even know if the ones we have are still working. That's why we want to express our feelings about the passing of Art this way. We are very sad about him passing away. Last summer we were thinking about visiting Art in Canada, but we changed plans. In some way we thought he had the ‘’eternal life’’. We will remember him as a very warm person, who cared about people and animals so much. We admired him, because we really learned lessons about the war from him. Such as that war is no good for both sides of the fighters, that all soldiers on both sides are just normal people and that most soldiers never asked to go in a war and kill people. We think he was a true pacifist. We will really miss him. I think we’ll visit the ‘freedomforest’ in Groningen this weekend to remember 'our liberator' Art in our own way. - Posted by: Frits and Maaike (Friends from Groningen, the Netherlands) on: Sep 22, 2012
