Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS OSCAR FINNBOGASON June 16, 1919 - August 18, 2012 It is with a deep sadness but wonderful memories that we announce the passing of Thomas Oscar Finnbogason, on August 18, 2012, at London (Ontario) Health Sciences Centre. He was surrounded by love and compassionate care as he entered his next journey to a peaceful place. His deep faith coupled with courage, determination and loving nature were an inspiration to those who were welcomed with his warm smile and genuine interest. He was a man who loved deeply and was deeply loved as husband of Emily; father to Ardath (Kerry), Tommy (Carolyn), and proud Afi to Cole, Tristin and Perry. He was one of the five Finnbogason Boys , second son of Olavia and Goody; loving brother to Paul (Thelma), Alan (Marguerite), Bill (Nona), Chris (Elaine); sister-cousin Sigrid (Bill) McKee; loving uncle to many nieces and nephews; loving cousin to many, including a special bond with RannaBjorg Albertsdottir in Iceland and the Bardal Clan in Vancouver. His community of close friends on Lodge Avenue were a very special part of his life. Tom will be remembered as a loyal and compassionate friend who quietly served and shared time with others. He was a humble Giver to many, a perfect host and a true gentleman. He was a wonderful story teller whose humour and marvelous memory delighted friends and family. His deep sense of loyalty to family, friends, customers (International Harvester for 42 years), and Masonic Brothers (past Master, District Deputy and oldest member, serving over 50 years) of the Ancient Landmark Masonic Lodge was always present. Tom's spirit and his deep faith were always evident as was his pride in his Icelandic heritage. He served on the councils of both First Lutheran Church (his church home as child and adult) and St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in which he was a founding member. He volunteered at Lögberg Heimskringla for several years and with Emily hosted annual Islendingadagurinn gatherings at the family cottage in Gimli. His life of service to others was exemplified during the Second World War, as a Flight Lieutenant and Wireless Air Gunner working with a crew who became lifelong friends. It was during his four years overseas that the value of loyalty, respect, honesty and integrity was reinforced. We will celebrate Tom's life at a memorial service to be held on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). In lieu of flowers, consideration may be given to gifting Lögberg-Heimskringla Endowment Fund, 100-283 Portage Avenue, The Sterling Building, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2B5 or Spiritual Care, c/o London Regional Cancer Program, 747 Baseline Rd., London, ON, N6C 2R6 or a charity of your choice. I feel so priviledged to have had the chance to get to know Ardath's endearing father, Tom. He always had a smile on his face and an interesting story from the past to tell; oh how impressed I was with his memory! As I hope to continue to pull into Ardath's driveway for many years to come, I will always look over to "Tom's chair" under the tree and smile at the good visits we had there. xo - Posted by: Sue Forbes (friend of the Finnbogason-Hill family) on: Oct 02, 2012

I was so sorry to read about your Dad's passing. He was an old friend of our family. My parents are Bob & Myrtle Nicholson. My Dad passed away in 2000. Mom and I ran into your Dad at Safeway last year. He was with his brother at the time. We had a nice, albeit short, visit in the store. I was in the travel business for 5 years (1993-98)and arranged trips for your Dad during that time. He was such a kind and gentle person and always had a smile on his face. Ardath, I don't know if you remember but we have met a very long time ago at one of our family events. It may have been a family wedding (Wilma Jean or Nancy Smith's)or reunion but your name has always stuck in my mind. I'm so sorry for your loss. Your Dad was a very sweet man and will be missed by all whose lives he touch. Kindest regards, Sue Nicholson - Posted by: Susan Nicholson (friend of the family) on: Sep 27, 2012

So sorry to read about your Dad's passing. I remember him to be such a kind man and a good friend to my uncle Ed Hodge and my Mom when my Dad passed away suddenly. My Mom passed away in 2007 and I often think of how all their friends are now gone. It is strange but I was thinking of your Dad very recently. It is hard to lose your parent, no matter how old they are. So sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Judy MacKenzie nee Ross (classmate of Ardath) on: Sep 24, 2012
