KATHY LEONG-LANTHIER It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden and untimely passing of Kathy Leong-Lanthier in Winnipeg, MB on Thursday, September 20, 2012. She is survived by her husband, Jordon; her parents, Wai and Winnie Leong; sister, Connie (Ray, brother-in-law), brother Kelly (Lisa, sister-in-law); her nieces and nephews: Taren, Resa, Kayla, Bravon and Kai; godparents Dora and David Leung, her many aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, extended family as well as many loving friends especially Elsa Lee-Dhar (Ottawa) and the Salsa Gang . Kathy was born in Winnipeg, MB on September 15, 1971. She attended Peretz School, Forrest Park Elementary, Jefferson Junior High, Garden City Collegiate, and the University of Manitoba. At 16 years of age, Kathy started working at Woolco within the candy department and later at Walmart as a photo technician until she retired at the ripe old age of 36 (she really wanted that employee discount card earned only after 20 years of service). Kathy developed her financial skills while working at Comark/Ricki's and in 2001, moved to Air Canada, working in the Finance Division. Her time at Air Canada fueled her passion for travel. In 2006 at a salsa dance class, Kathy met the love of her life, Jordon Lanthier. She brought true love and passion to Jordon's world. They became inseparable, marrying on May 2, 2009 fulfilling Jordon's promise on their first date when he said he would marry her some day. Their life together was filled with salsa dancing with friends, travelling the world and of course enjoying all of the food that Winnipeg and the world had to offer (Kathy always liked to have her options ). Kathy enjoyed exploring and visiting new and exciting places (especially if there was food involved) including Cuba, Australia, Hawaii, Beijing, and Singapore. She enjoyed baking and was always up to the challenge of trying a new baking recipe which Jordon was more than happy to sample. She baked the best chocolate banana cake hands down, just ask the Salsa Gang. Kathy was a gorgeous woman. She radiated kindness. Just by smiling Kathy could fill a room with warmth, and brought joy to the lives of all of those fortunate enough to have known her. What moves through us now is a silence. A quiet sadness. A longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember that you lived. Your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. If it is possible to believe in an angel on earth, then Kathy was the embodiment of that possibility. To those who knew and loved her, we can only hope that with time the pain of our loss will be replaced with the warmth of the memories of our beautiful, sweet, smiling Kathy. A celebration will be held at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery) on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Pallbearers are Bravon Wan, Don Sinclair, Dennis Aquino, Cheng To, Len Pagtakhan and Enrique Ruiz. Thank you to all the special nurses on 5E and ICU for their exceptional care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Manitoba, Unit 1-452 Dovercourt Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3Y 2K8 or Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6. • I always knew Kathy was nearby when I heard her infectious laugh. Laughter came easily to her, and I couldn't help but feel uplifted by her presence. When the laughter was continuous over a period of time, I knew she was talking to Robert Smith. Those two loved bantering back & forth. Although Kathy laughed easily, I knew she carried a lot of responsibility on her shoulders....but she didn't complain! Kathy took care of people, and ensured we all participated in life. She was our social convenor, our resident baker, and our glue. I will truly miss you Kathy, as you were one of a kind. Thank you for being you, and for sharing your spirit with us over the past 8 years. You'll be in our hearts & memories for many years to come. Jordon, Mr & Mrs Leong.....may the higher power bring you eventual peace regarding Kathy's passing. - Posted by: Mona Basset (Friend/ex-coworker Tax Dept. Air Canada) on: Sep 27, 2012

  • On behalf of the entire Delta Winnipeg family, we are heartbroken that Kathy's health journey over the last year could end in such a way. Kathy and Jordon exemplified true love and were an example to all of us. Kathy's life work may be complete on this earth but she will live on with us in so many ways that will warm our hearts and make us smile. It was a honour to know Kathy. - Posted by: Helen Halliday (co-worker) on: Sep 27, 2012

  • I was shocked and saddened to hear of Kathy's passing. I remember her fondly all the way back to elementary school where we were in the same class. We remained friends throughout junior and senior high and although lost contact after graduation, we re-connected through Facebook. I enjoyed seeing her gorgeous wedding photos and knew she was extremely happy. It's never fair when a young person leaves the world but I truly believe she is an angel now. My deepest condolences to her husband Jordon as well as her family. RIP Kathy. - Posted by: Aimee Horbul (School friend) on: Sep 27, 2012

  • Jordon, we are so saddened to hear of your loss. We heard that you and Kathy had married from Simon and were so excited that you two were still together - salsa brings a passion that ignites for life . . . look at Grace and Rommel. The two of you glowed when you danced together and the love you shared was so evident. It's true, Kathy's smile lit up any room she was in and she had such a kind heart. Our hearts and prayers go out to you and yours and her family. Take the best of care Jordon. - Posted by: Jen and John Zorn-Ford (Friends from the Salsa gang) on: Sep 26, 2012

  • I was extremely sad to hear of Kathy's illness and sudden passing. I remember dearly teaching and coaching Kathy at Garden City. • I went to school with Kathy from elementary school to high school. I only saw her a few times after that until we re-connected on Facebook. (She has the same beautiful smile!) To read what so many people are writing about her--what a wonderful. giving, loving person she was--makes me wish I had known her better. My heartfelt condolences to Jordan and Kathy's family and friends. Rest in Peace, Kathy. - Posted by: Maria Fernandes (School friend) on: Sep 25, 2012

  • I miss your friendly smile, laughter, and awesome baked goods. I still remember them cream puffs you gave me when we picked-up that huge cabinet (which I finished half of it between your house and our office ... a 10 minute drive). I will forever hold the memories: Cabin weekend at Lisa's and party at Cheng's. You are unforgettable. R.I.P. dear friend. @>-- - Posted by: MJRuiz (friend) on: Sep 25, 2012

  • Kathy, how to start to describe you...? how to tell what your beautiful smile produced in all of us, how can anyone really express how those georgeous eyes full of life made us feel when we were around you?. I can't Kathy, and I doubt anybody ever will ever be able to completely express that. I just wish I could've said good bye. I will miss you. - Posted by: Julian Ospina (Friend/former salsa partner) on: Sep 25, 2012
