MILDRED OLIVE RUSSELL (nee CHADWICK) Peacefully, on Thursday, September 20, 2012, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away, at the age of 86, with family by her side. Born in Winnipeg on November 13, 1925 to Wilfred and Olive Chadwick, Mildred was predeceased by her parents; her brother Ronald; and her sister, Muriel. Most sadly, she lost her beloved husband of 57 years, Gerald, in 2006. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Cathy and Debbie (Terry); sons, Doug (Lori) and Wilf (Yvonne); grandchildren, Jessie, Laura (Michael), Chris, and Chad (Jessica); great-granddaughter, Ada Marie; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mildred married Gerald on June 18, 1949, at St. James United Church. While raising her family, she also volunteered for many years at both the St. Amant Centre and the Misericordia General Hospital. Mildred attended theatre and opera for many years. A great believer in tradition, family and family events were very important to Mildred. Holiday get-togethers and birthday celebrations were eagerly anticipated and enjoyed. For years, she was an active member of Fort Garry and St. James United Churches and loved to sing in both church choirs. She was also an active member in the United Church Women. We, the family, wish to thank the 3rd floor staff at Oakview Place for their kindness, generosity, and compassion during Mom's last months. A private family interment ceremony will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens on Saturday afternoon, September 29, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Mom, you will always be remembered with our eternal and endearing love. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I was very saddened to hear of the loss of your Mother. I have the fondest memories of spending Boxing Days at your family home - with your Mom & Dad being the most gracious and welcoming hosts. She was a very dear lady and although I haven't seen her in years, she still holds a special place in my heart. Sincere condolences to all of you. • My deepest condolences to Cathy, Debbie, Jessie and the rest of Millie's family. I had the privilege of being a friend of dear Millie through our shared love of music as we sang together in the St. James United Church Choir. Even though Millie was a soprano and I an alto, our bond was strong and we shared many laughs over the years. Millie's greatest joy was her family and I loved hearing her recount stories of her childhood and her courtship, marriage and the family she raised with her beloved husband Jerry. I took to heart the sage advice she willingly and graciously offered me. I will forever cherish my memories of happy moments shared with my dear friend Millie and especially performing together at church and at variety shows and the most memorable time we shared on stage was when we sang "Side by Side" complete with props provided by Millie. We had several practices prior to the event because Millie gently insisted that we perform to the best of our abilities. Millie, my choir buddy and confidant, you will forever be in my heart.
