Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN DYCK Helen Dyck (Rempel) passed away at Meadowood Manor on September 27, 2012, at the age of 86. Helen was born on February 25, 1926, in Osterwick, Ukraine. In August of 1948, after years of fleeing the devastation of the Second World War, Helen arrived in Quebec aboard the Kota Inten. She then took a very long train journey to Abbotsford, BC, to be welcomed by relatives in Yarrow and begin her new life in Canada. In the summer of 1951, she travelled to Winnipeg to visit her younger sisters Kate and Ann, who had both managed to leave war-torn Europe in the three years since she had left. She decided to stay in Winnipeg and shortly thereafter met Abe, the love of her life. They married in 1952 and went on to raise five children. Helen was sadly predeceased by Abe in 2007 and by their daughter, Judy, in 1969. She is survived by their four children, Chuck (Kathy), Sue (Helmut), Heather (Brent) and Pat (Debbie), as well as their four grandchildren - Brandon, Daniel, Shaylyn and Kelton. She is also survived by her daughter, Linda and her grandchildren, Jason and Trisha. Helen's children would like to express appreciation to the staff of Meadowood Manor, especially Nurse Betty Jean and Chaplain David Holland, for their compassionate care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
