ELLA OSTER Zurueck in die Heimat In the quiet pause between two breaths, Mom found the open door to Eternity and hurried through to keep her appointment with Heaven. Oh dear...was she already late?? She'd sat in God's Waiting Room for several years and kept asking what time it was. Her eyes were dim and she couldn't see the clock. Her speech was fuzzy and she couldn't ask directions. Her legs were weak and she needed help to get to her destination. She became anxious. Waiting was the enemy. She must not waste precious time! Puenktlichkeit! Her family would be waiting too: husband Rudolf; sons Kurt, Edmund and Wilfred; grandson Terry; son-in-law Reg. Hurry, hurry. On September 28, 2012, Heaven's door finally opened and the One she'd always loved was there to greet her. With a smile, Jesus wrapped her in His arms. Perhaps it was the first time in her life that she felt safe enough to linger in a hug. He said she was beautiful. It was definitely the first time she would hear those words and finally believe them. He showed her the place he had prepared for her. She now understood what it meant to feel truly at Home. Ella Oster was born on June 23, 1920 in the little village of Friedensfeld in Romania. Never trusting that she could rely on anyone, she did it all by herself'....whatever it was. Favourite saying: NEVER give up! It was a good motto for survivors of the Second World War. She loved beautiful things, but her frugal values wouldn't allow unnecessary purchases. So she grew her own beautiful garden, sewed her own pretty dresses for her daughters and designed her own amazing quilts to share with family, church and friends. We all have Oma quilts to treasure. In our home she was the no-nonsense but always smiling Sunshine that pushed back the family clouds of fatigue, despair and defeat. Of course you can do it by yourself.' You DON'T have to be like everyone else.' We have to accept the good with the bad.' I don't need government help to look after my own son!!' She had no patience with wordy rationalizations or fuzzy thinking. Just get it done and don't complain!' She accepted all jobs and worked until the work was finished. Everyone knew her as Kurt's Mom. She also had two daughters and six grandchildren who are so very proud of the feisty spirit she has always embodied, long after the storms of life dimmed her eyes, silenced her words, stilled her limbs and clouded her sunshine. Remembering her are daughters Ilse Krentz Ens (Phil), Nell Loewen (Ken) as well as her grandchildren and their families: Kelly Krentz (Rowena), sons Jonathan and Adam; David Krentz (Kim), sons Theo and Atticus; Lisa Martens (Kevin), daughters Taylor, Jenna and Danielle; Andy Loewen (Sandy), children Erin, Peri and Brody; Moni Loewen (Roger Blatz), children Morgan and Luke; Mark Krentz (Naing), daughters Jade and Mya. Mom, now your eyes see clearly. Now your hands lift again and each finger awakens to a remembered knowing. Find your quilting needle and begin. Sew together the glory patches of God's love and stretch His quilt across the evening skies. We will look for your radiant smile in the rhythmic glow of the dancing Northern Lights. Love you always. The funeral service will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with interment at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Bethesda Foundation, 316 Henry St., Steinbach, MB R5G 0P9. Arrangements by BIRCHWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL 1-204-346-1030 OR 1-888-454-1030
