Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY FOOTE BAKER June 9, 1918 - October 1, 2012 With deep sorrow we announce the passing of May (Mary) Baker on Monday, October 1, 2012 at the Rosewood Lodge Personal Care Home surrounded by her loving family. Mom was born on June 9, 1918 in Motherwell, Scotland to George and Helen Shields. Mom met dad while he served overseas and they married on May 4, 1945. He had to leave her until she could get passage to Canada the next year. They made their home in Steep Rock where they raised their family, Kern, Fern and Don. In 1980 dad retired and they moved to Winnipeg for the winters to be closer to their children. Mom enjoyed curling, sewing, dancing and spending her summers in Steep Rock as she always felt at home. She would always have a lemon pie and saskatoon/rhubarb pie ready on the counter for the kids when they would visit. She was very fond of chocolate and would always have some on hand. She was famous for her Scottish shortbread recipe that so many of us still use today. Mom was a member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Eastern Star. She knitted for all of her grandchildren. She is survived by her brother Roy; son Kern (Jo-Anne); daughter Fern; daughter-in-law Georgina; her beloved grandchildren, Michelle (John-Paul) and Lindsay, Heather (Ryan), Dustin (Jamie), and great-granma's special little ones Cole and Lily who brought so much love to her; grandsons Donald and Wesley. She was predeceased by her husband Adolph; son Donald; sisters Myra and Johann; parents George and Helen. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 5, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Steep Rock Community Church, Steep Rock, MB. Pastor Erwin Tippel officiating. Interment to follow in the Faulkner Community Cemetery. The family would like to give a special thanks to all the staff at Rosewood Lodge Personal Care Home in Stonewall, MB for their care and concern they showed mom during her stay. We know she loved you. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Steep Rock Community Church, Steep Rock, Manitoba. Arnason Funeral Home, Ashern, in care of arrangements, 204-768-2072.
