METRO (DAN) MANDRYK
Date of Passing: Oct 03, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMETRO (DAN) MANDRYK On October 3, 2012, with family at his side, Metro (Dan) Mandryk peacefully passed on 13 days shy of his 82nd birthday. Metro leaves behind his devoted wife of 61 years Hanya nee: Wowchuk; daughter Wendy, sons Danny (Susanne) from Phoenix, Pat (Dalyce) from Calgary; five grandchildren Shanna, Joshua, Daniel, Ryan and Tara; and three great- grandchildren Chance, Alexandria and Peyton; brothers Willy (Lena), Rick (Lee), sisters-in-law Cecile Mascarin, Pauline Halabecki and all of their families from Thunder Bay and numerous extended family from Alberta. Metro moved with his family from Alberta to Thunder Bay at the age of nine. Although they all worked very hard to make ends meet, strong family values and the joy of being together was a constant. Metro was an active, friendly determined individual and whatever he set his mind to do, he did exceptionally well. As a young man Metro had dreams of becoming a teacher. As life would have it, his strong sense of responsibility to assist his parents financially led him on a different path. He was employed at the CN Railroad for many years before finding his way into a very rewarding sales career. Although he did not teach professionally, his keen mind and incredible appetite for knowledge was something that never left him. Metro enjoyed sports, playing and watching, singing - he was in the church choir as well as the Fort William male choir, cooking and entertaining. He retired in 1990 and spent six wonderful winters in Arizona. Later in life his health issues made it impossible for him to live life as he once did. He is at peace now and will always be remembered for the many gifts he left behind. Rest in peace. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the 4th floor staff at the Poseidon Care Centre. Your dedication, empathy, humour and exceptional care made Metro's passing a comfortable and respectful one. Your care and concern for the family will always be remembered and appreciated. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. with viewing prior to service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Metro to a charity of your choice. Dearest Hayna and Wendy, We send our heartfelt sympathy to you and your family. Metro had a special place in our life...especially with our children. We remember him teasing the kids and then promptly placing a chocolate bar or $1 in their hands. He always had a smile for us. May your memories sustain and lift you at this difficult time. Our prayers are with you now and always! With love Wayne and Maxine - Posted by: Wayne and Maxine Gacek (Friends) on: Oct 09, 2012
