MADELINE BARBARA MATTSON (nee GOYTAN) September 4, 1926 - October 5, 2012 It is with profound grief the family wishes to announce the passing of Madeline Barbara Mattson. She died peacefully at the Victoria General Hospital after a short illness. Mom was born in a small village in Croatia in 1926. She emigrated to Canada in December 1939. She emigrated with her mother and two brothers to join her father for a new life in Canada. After leaving the family farm near McCreary, Manitoba, Mom worked in the garment industry in Portage la Prairie and Winnipeg. She married Earl in 1954, and together they raised five children. The family settled in St. Vital in 1960, and she resided at the same address for 52 years. Mom is survived by her beloved husband Earl, children Richard Mattson (Jean), Laurence Mattson (Joanne), Barbara Wright (Ron), Cathy Johnston (Neil), and Susan Trueman (Todd). Mom is also survived by eight grandchildren. Sarah, Amanda, Kristen (Trevor), Curtis, Andrew (Kate), Eric, Ashley and Tamara. Additionally, she is survived by her brother John Goytan, and sister-in-law Edith Goytan. Mom was predeceased by her parents Magdalena and John, brother Neil and sister-in-law Olga. Mom was deeply dedicated to her family. In addition to the daily routine of raising five children, she also took employment outside of the home for extra family income. She was a very hard worker. We will miss her fabulous dinners and baking. Her plum dumplings, cakes and pies were legendary. Her faith in God and the knowledge of her everlasting life in Heaven were unshaken to the end. God bless you Mom. Your pain and suffering are at an end. Till we meet again, our love for you burns eternally. Funeral services will be held at Christ the King Church, 847 St. Mary's Road, on Friday, October 12, 2012. Viewing will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with full mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment and reception to follow at Green Acres Funeral Home Cemetery, Highway #1 East at Navin Rd. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff on the 4th floor of Victoria General Hospital. No flowers please. Instead, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Victoria General Hospital Foundation in Mom's memory would be greatly appreciated.
